| Rush Limbaugh was right on the money today (Posted on 1/3/13 at 8:16 pm)
quote:
I saw people saying things and read people writing things that bore no relationship to reality whatsoever. I'll give you an example. I say that we keep throwing away our core beliefs in order to get to what matters. Well, what really matters, apparently, is spending. "What really matters is out-of-control spending, and that's what we really have to get our arms around, and this tax business? Ehhh, we were never gonna win that. Let's throw that away. On how many other things have we said, "Yeah, throw that away. Let's throw away our stand on immigration. Let's throw our stand on abortion. Let's throw away our stand on the social issues. All these things are causing us trouble, don't you see, Mr. Limbaugh? We've gotta get rid of all these things we're gonna lose on anyway and get to what matters: Spending!" I don't know where they get this thought process that somehow we're gonna win that. While we lose everything else and throw everything else away and give up on everything else, we're gonna win the spending argument? This is what I don't understand. I'd like for it to happen, don't misunderstand, but I don't think our people get it. I'm all for optimism when there are things to be optimistic about. John O'Sullivan, the former editor of the National Review, points out that optimism is a state of mind; it is not a principle for governance.
100% correct. GOP is running out of principles to compromise on, cave in on, or throw away. We keep hearing how the GOP need to fold on amnesty, immigration, gay marriage, abortion, gun rights, entitlements, taxes, etc. etc. etc. etc. then the GOP can get the democrats where it really matters, spending. But if the GOP can't hold firm on any of the above core principles, what makes you possibly think they can hold firm and get the Democrats to fold when it comes to the very foundation of the democrat party, high levels of government spending?

Well, "standing" for "small government" and at the same time pushing for strict limits on civil liberties, of all types, is hypocrisy. If you were less hypocritical, you'd run into fewer problems of credibility when it came to your other pet projects.

What civil liberties are republicans pushing for strict limits on?

Exactly, Bush spent like a drunken sailor, enlarged gov't, and passed the patriot act. Both Bush regimes were horrible.

Deflection A federal blanket allowance of gay marriage and abortion IS big government, leaving it up to the states is small government.

Please show where I claimed Bush was a conservative or a model that the GOP needs to follow? His brand of "conservatism" helped us get in this mess.

Didn't say you did. I was just pointing out another reason why the GOP is so weak. They have ignored their base and given in to special interest.

Serious question - Is the mainstream GOP willing to cut the Defense budget, SS and/or Medicare in addition to entitlements?

When did Rush start his show? 1990 or so? And how many elections have Republicans carried the popular vote since? 1 Republicans have lost 5 of the last 6 popular vote elections. Youre running out of ideas. Maybe you should stop listening o Rush.

Sexual perversion, amnesty and infanticide are civil liberties? Since when? I didn't get the memo.

Mainstream? No, they only care about their own seat and power. Even though I support a strong military and national defense, there is still plenty of waste that can be cut in the defense department.

Rush Limbaugh speaks truth, you don't like him because you can't stand the truth.

Please stop listening to Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Brietbart, World Net Daily, Washington Times, and Fox news. It's not real news. For the left, stop reading politicususa.com, crooksandliars.com, truthdig.com, addictinginfo.org, rawstory.com, and MSNBC news.
