LINK Pros: He is on the court/bench He might play all the first back to back games Working on getting back in shape He is playing limited minutes Con: Knee is still experiencing soreness He will miss at least 8 more games this season (Back to back games won't play) Out of shape He is playing limited minutes. That's expected under any circumstances where you stop doing strenuous activity for a long time and then jump right back into it. The soreness should subside after he gets more and more playing time.

Doesn't say that he's guaranteed to miss all of the back to backs. It just depends on his conditioning as to when he will start being able to play in them. Decent points otherwise, though.

I agree on most of your points, but I think he will play back-to-backs as soon as his conditioning rises.

That article pretty much reinforces my previous thoughts on the dnp.

Perhaps but the back-to-back situation is not related to his conditioning but rather his knee per the article because this is what his doctors have recommended to the Hornets. The bigger question I have is where will this guy be mentally when he is playing and has to stop quick or rotate really fast and he mentally prepares himself for some sort of pain in his knee? Most people will be subconsciously timid when playing when they think they might experience some sort of knee pain.

Not really. His lack of conditioning creates fatigue. Fatigue leads to injuries. They're just easing him back in to avoid that.

Here's a direct quote from Gordon:
quote:
"I have to keep doing conditioning,'' Gordon said. "I don’t know how long this progress is going to be. It’s going to be based on how I feel and I’ll interact with everyone in this organization on that. But the main thing is just playing at this point. Nothing is hurting or limiting me. We’re just being more cautious.''
Now stop.

I found this interesting.
quote:
Following the recommendation of doctors, Williams said the decision for Gordon to sit out was made in collaboration with Mickey Loomis, the Hornets' Executive Vice President, and General Manager Dell Demps and himself to avoid overworking him. In his home debut Tuesday night, Gordon scored 11 points on a five-of-17 shooting.
I guess they think the Shabus plan will be unpopular and are trying to show that the Saints support it too.

How is he out of shape? Or not in game condition? During his rehab, he was working out many hours everyday, sprinting, lifting, stretching, swimming. How can he not be in shape? He might be kind of lost, like not no where to go, out of practice. But I'm sure it's just to rest the knee and I'm alright with that. I just don't get Monty or Dell constantly saying that they have to get his conditioning back.

Nah, Loomis is Demps' boss, so that just means they went one step up, but not not Lauscha or Benson necessarily.

So you played high school? In that case you would know that you could do all the running and conditioning you wanted but it would never fully prepare you.

Anyone who has played any kind of organized basketball could tell you that game conditioning can only be developed completely by playing the game. Run all day long, but play basketball for 12 mins and you will be winded. Has nothing to do with playing in college or pro.

Interestingly enough Nola.com updated their article several hours later and reworded the "Knee is still experiencing soreness" quote from Eric Gordon. Someone from the Hornets organization must have called the reporter.
