That is still a significant accomplishment

Assuming A&M wins' FIVE 11+ win teams will come from the SEC ALONE. LSU = 10 wins.

I think the prblem is the English language. It's a pretty well known fact that people around here have, at best, a pretty shallow knowlege of it.

True. Mediocrity = Average. The average W-L percentage of college football teams is .500.
So, one could put the list of mediocre programs at those who achieved between a .450 and .550 WL percentage over the last 10 years and you would find that most teams fall in that range.

Because offense sells tickets..

So LSU wouldn't have sold many tickets to the Cotton Bowl?

defense after playing 100 plays, cant beat a shitty ACC team....

So this was taken into consideration during bowl selections?

no, LSU would have sold out the Cotton Bowl, but so did TAMU and Cotton Bowl officials thought that TAMU was a sexier draw.....

I see this thrown around a lot, so I checked the numbers.
From 2005 - 2012, LSU is ranked 3rd in winning percentage among all Division 1-A schools. 1st is Boise St, 2nd is TCU. Ohio St and Oregon fill out the top 5. That is out of 120 teams.

What?! No Bama?!

5 teams in the SEC with more wins than us
LSU at 10 wins
Vandy at 9 wins
5 SEC teams with less wins

Seems average in the SEC to me...

Love seeing peole try and dispute facts...facts are facts...and for 8 years Miles (and many others have helped) has led LSU football to more success than we have ever had ...by far....for a longer period of time....everyone has a right to their own opinions, but there is only one set of facts....pick most anytime period since 2000 and LSU is among the best of all D1 programs..thanks les, Nick etc, etc....

if A&M had the exact same stats and record but no Heisman winning QB then LSU would've been in the Cotton Bowl.

why are you pushing so hard to try to spin LSU into an average team?

Bowls matter a great deal in the big picture of the program namely recruiting or TV exposure....

Disagree. Chik-Fil-A was fine to play in.

They got exposure on TV.

I'm sure they'll be on TV many of times next year just like they have been for the last 3-4 years.

The '13 class is ranked in the top 5 in the country and the '14 class is looking even better.

Again, if it's not the Championship Game, the bowl game, in all honesty, is completely irrelevant. I'm sure LSU would have liked to play in a bigger bowl because of the payout, but other than that, I don't see the big deal.

Somebody has to be Paul Revere.

There are basically two ways to approach mediocrity.

1. A team gets worse
2. Other teams get better

Look at the SEC, we are staring at number 2.

Johnny “Football” Manziel and the Texas A&M Aggies are coming to Cowboys Stadium to face Landry Jones and the Oklahoma Sooners in a battle of top-ranked teams in the 77th AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic.

“We hit a home run today,” Tommy Bain, Chairman of the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic said. “When our Team Selection Committee met for the first time a few weeks ago, we circled this matchup as the one we most wanted, and the cards fell in our favor today.”

Sure about that?

LSU played there in '10, '11, and will be playing there in the first game next year.

With as many people upset over how the season went down, I don't think that selling out would have been such a slam dunk as most of you make it out to be.

Average in a limited sample isn't statistically(sp?) valid.
