| How Much More Will Your Payroll Tax Be in 2013? (Posted on 1/2/13 at 8:11 am)
The Social Security tax withholding rate is expected to return to 6.2% after two years at 4.2%. So far neither party has expressed much interest in another extension. For someone earning the 2011 median income of $50,054 that translates into $1,001.08 a year or about $40 less in a biweekly paycheck. Economists expect the increase will trim about 0.6 percentage point from growth in the first quarter of 2013. To see how much more you will pay next year, input your annual pretax salary into the calculator and click “calculate.”

The budget deal just approved by Congress prevents the scheduled pay increase for members of Congress from going into effect in March.

That pay increase was just a faux throw away negotiating item o created to make it look like republicans got something out of the deal. Genius.

It's not genius when people are seriously struggling and are losing jobs and homes. It's evil genius if he hates America.

That's household income. Individual income is about half of that.

Did the employer's part also go away for this same time period? If so, my tax more than doubles on it's reengagement.

No, but self-employed people got the reduction on the employee share.

The pay freeze is a separate bill and will never get through the Senate.

$78 a paycheck and I get paid every two weeks (or 26 times a year) so I will be out a little more than $2,000/year.

Did anyone else's OASDI go up? Mine went up $30/check which accounts for $90 a month for me before these new taxes.

See my last post. This will be how Obama blames the republicans. He will say they did it, when it is what Obama wanted to do all along.

The payroll tax reduction should never have been passed in the first place. It had zero effect on improving the economy and it only made the medicare, medicaid and social security problems worse.
