"The Snowmen"

Christmas Eve 1892 and the falling snow is the stuff of fairy-tales. When the fairy-tale becomes a nightmare and a chilling menace threatens Earth, an unorthodox young governess, Clara, calls on the Doctor for help. But the Doctor is in mourning, reclusive and determined not to engage in the problems of the universe. As old friends return, will the Doctor really abandon humankind or will he fight to save the world - and Christmas - from the icy clutches of this mysterious menace?

I'm about to cheat and watch it online cuz it's already aired overseas. I'm pretty excited as the quick reviews I've read have been very positive... even by folks who are usually cynical.

This was a good one... Much better than last year's and a little better than the Scrooge one from a couple years ago.

LOVE Clara as the new companion. Highly recommend this.

Can't believe I missed it. I've been waiting for this episode.

Can't wait for the 50th anniversary. Probably will forget about it too.

Nevermind it's on again

I laughed out loud multiple times during the episode.

Love the way they go about tapping into his pain over Amy.

Love how we get more backstory/character development with "lizard woman" and "potato man" etc...

Without giving anything away... This thing ends with 2 arch-potential mysteries to kick off the rest of the season.

Yep. Makes it more realistic.

True I always wanted to see more of them. The potato man parts are hilarious

"Need a grenade?"

It's smaller on the outside.

Clara is awesome.

I'm assuming that was a key to the Tardis.

There was no River Song in the "Coming Soon" at the end. Guess they want to break away from her for a bit.

Nothing wrong with that, just means new characters for us to meet.

good to hear. I'm watching it with a group on Saturday but I've been annoyed at this last season of Dr. Who. At least they're finally changing the formula up a bit, maybe that'll make for some better stories.

There are rumors she will be back for the season finale.
I liked it. I'm just worried they'll get bored with the Clara mystery and it will fizzle out. Like there are still a lot of things we don't know about the Silence destroying the TARDIS and that's going back two seasons.

I think they'll wrap on the Clara thing within a couple of episodes more or less and move on to figuring out what the "Greater Intelligence" is.

They connected Clara to Oswin! I like Clara a lot. She has the potential to be a great companion. Matt Smith continues to grow on me as the Doctor.

They wrapped up the Great Intelligence idea -- it was a nod to the early years of the show. During the Second Doctor era in the late 1960s, he encountered the Yeti, these Abominable Snowmen looking creatures living in the London Underground. They were controlled by a disembodied force called the Great Intelligence.
So yesterday's episode showed that the Doctor was responsible for all this, because he gave the Great Intelligence a map of the Underground circa 1967 and said it was a weak point.
