Anyone know where I can find the model 70 action in .308 without having to buy the whole rifle?

Probably not, but ill just take a shot

I want to barrel it and stock it myself, just the action ma'am

Thanks and merry Christmas!

Have you looked for a beat up rifle?

I'd think you could find one relatively inexpensively and since the barrel and stock are going to be replaced condition isn't very critical...

Yeah I have that's what Im going to do if I can't find a receiver only

I was just wondering if there was somewhere that catered to guys trying to build custom bolt actions so that I wouldn't have to hunt for a beat up rifle

I know Rem sells actions and so does Sako. Old Mauser actions are pretty easy to find. I can't recall seeing new Winchester actions. Gunbroker maybe?

Problem is gonna be that the only good model 70 actions are pre 64's, and are priced at a premium. The new model 70 is also a good action, but those rifles are going to be "new".

Why not a 700?

If you can't find fresh Model 70 actions, this is your best bet. Just snag a new stock and barrel and you're ready to roll.

Do this if you are not set on building a M70

I wanted to build a classic deer rifle. Either a 700 or a 70

The question was "why not a 700" , not "why a 70"

What I'm saying is if you want a m70 for the Mauser action and not because you want to be able to call it a m70 your options are broad.

Remington used to sell Mauser actions. I'd look into that for sure.

If not, Mauser, cZ, Kimber, and ruger all use Mauser actions. You should have a much easier time finding a Mauser action than one specifically off a model 70 because, as infidel said, it'll be pre-1964 and expensive as hell

Yes I understood what you were saying which is why I clarified that I wanted to build a 700 or a 70 and settler on a controlled feed 70 over the 700

So my two options were 700 or 70 and I decided I want to find a 70

Check out FN rifles, they are nice and some of them you wont need to upgrade.

Oh, I hear you on the classic rifle thing, and I would love to build a model 70 up. I really am not sure as I've never been serious about building a 70, but check the classified section on longrangehunting.com. I've come across some really good deals over there and those guys know their shite. I like controlled round feed, but both have attributes. Let us know what you come up with!

798 is a good option too but there is something about that 70

And the FNs are sweet but I'm looking forward to customizing it

I will for sure keep the board updated. I found a few decent deals online I would love to be able to put my hands on something used, especially something that old

In that case, I'd get the bottom of the barrel current production model 70, whatever that is. It'll probably be cheaper than a pre-64 one.

Yeah but the post 64s aren't true controlled feeds if I'm
Not mistaken

The current production model 70's are control feed actions.

I forgot what year exactly they went back to mauser actions. I guess it was around 08
