I was a bit surprised. At a Tip-off Club function before the season he told us he's not a zone guy so you could expect very little of it while he's coach.

But he played it pretty much the whole game today.

He said post game he zoned because Marquette was not a particularly good shooting team and he wanted to also limit their inside advantage.

I think the fact that we hadn't played alot of zone showed early as we played it very poorly, but seemed to finally get in some rhythem toward the end of the first half, creating some turnovers.

But it took us so long it put us in a big hole. I'm wondering if mixing some man in would have kept us a bit closer early?

In that little bit of the game that I saw, the zone moved way better than it ever did under Johnson

It paid off after the first 10-12 minutes in this regard. They were money in that opening stretch and then didn't really shoot all that well after that. They just made shots when they needed to. I would love to know the stats of what they were shooting when they got up 43-22 and after that point

It took probably about 15 minutes for that to occur though. Early on we looked like our feet were in buckets.

I'll chalk that up to not having played much zone this year.

Marquette shot 50% for the game, but I bet it was much lower than that the last 25 minutes and they shot poorly from behind the arc.

The difference in the end was they shot 24-25 from the stripe. They just flat out did not miss.
