Question about the insanity plea

Seems this is more of a lib thing, maybe not, but I've always wondered why being insane is some sort of judicial loop hole to avoid consequenses for one's actions. Anyone understand why this is rational for not being punished as a 'sane' person would?

The logic goes that if they are not of sound mind, then they cannot be held 100% responsible for the actions they took.

Deliberate intent is an essential element of certain crimes.

They aren't capable of having the required intent if they don't know what they are doing.

He said it better.

The same logic applies to the different degrees of murder, etc.

If I walk in on my wife having sex with a guy and I shite a brick and shoot them both right then and there, it is not the same as me later deciding to kill them and then doing it.

I do not understand how the OP does not understand.

OP seems more like a launching point to start a thread of nonsense rather than ask a serious question.

Andrea Yates agrees with this.
