| Is A&M's offense this season = Big 12 offense? (Posted on 12/10/12 at 1:46 pm)
Some D bag got paired with my friend and me playing golf this weekend. At first he was complementing Manziel and the SEC and all of a sudden says "I thought the SEC defenses were supposed to be able to stop a Big 12 offense?" To this I replied, "How the frick is that a Big 12 offense? Manziel single-handedly won most of their games." Turns out this dude is a Texas alumnus and was just trying to talk shite that the Big 12 was and still is better than the SEC. In my limited football knowledge, I didn't know what he meant by saying it was a "Big 12 offense." Can anyone explain this to me or was this dude just a typical Texas alumnus douche nozzle?

Well they finished 5th in the SEC so I'd say they stopped it somewhat.

Probably because we run a spread offense that's somewhat similar in style to several big 12 offenses. The difference to me though is our OL play.

Almost half the SEC plays a spread. It's not a Big 12 or SEC offense. There's no such thing as a Big 12 offense. And LSU stopped it fine.

The spread is definitely stereotyped as a Big 12 offense though because of how deeply rooted it is at some of the schools like Tech, OU and OSU. Not saying its correct

I think Meyer did a decent job with the spread in the SEC

Manziels running ability puts it on a different level A big 12 offense features predominantly passing QBs. Tho TX kinda bucked that trend

SEC defenses stop Big 12 offenses in bowl games because they have 5-6 weeks to prepare. When given that much time to prepare, the good defense will almost always stop the good offense.

Most successful offenses in the Big 12 run the Spread while most successful offenses in the SEC run the power formation. So yes, I would say the Spread, therefore, A&M is a Big 12 offense. I don't understand why you got so butthurt over a statement like that.

Florida wasn't suiccessful? Neither was Malzahn at Auburn? Or Arkansas? We're now saying that LSU is one of the "successful" offenses in the SEC? Really? The reason most SEC defenses beat Big 12 offenses in bowl games is because our defenses are better than their offenses at the top. A Big 12 team could light up an SEC defense in the bottom half of the conference, but that's not who they get in the bowl game. Also, most Big 12 QB's aren't as good as you think they are, witnessed by how they do in the NFL as a group. Our elite teams are better than their elite teams.

Those offenses all had power elements to them. Tebow, Cam/Dyer, the Knile Davis at Arky. Even though they spread people out, they could still get tough yards as well. A&M had that this year as well with their veteran O-line and talented RBs. The question going forward will be if that remains a part of A&M's offense. Mizzou didn't really have a power element to their offense. They didn't do so hot.

because he was trying to bait me into thinking he was an aggie fan and then tried to start talking shite about the SEC. I guess that kind of faggery is expected in the big 12.

I think in the last 20 years there has only been 1 big 12 QB to make the pro bowl and that was Vince young which obviously was an anonmoly (sp)

And while RGIII seems likely to break that trend, I doubt Gabbert or Wheedon will be starters, much less Pro Bowlers, in three years.

All those have running QBs and were spread option teams. I think he was talking about ARK in the wildcat which is just another variation. But I agree they aren't the same as most of the spread passing offenses of the big12. Those don't work in the SEC. You need the running QB

lol, Johnny Football would have 1,000+ more yards and 10+ more TDs had he played against the swiss cheese defenses in the Big 12.
