I used to fly back in Alabama. I sold everything because I didn't know anyone here to fly with. Most flyers are older nitro guys. I liked to hangout with guys my age, drink beer, and not smell like nitro.
My fav bird was an EZ Star modded with brushless and lipo. With stock motor, its boring, but it becomes a complete wing bending beast with brushless and lipo. Its all foam so crashes just needed packing tape to put it back together. I once lost signal around 500' and she came down nose first... only lost a battery (damaged lipo).

I had one of the cheap Nikko ones as a kid; I never got it to fly well and broke props every time it left the ground. Always wanted to give it another shot.

That looks like a decent brushless 4chan RTF, but you could build better for the money. One thing I'll caution is to make sure spare structural parts are available and cheap. Going with a new/rare plane can cause shortage of spare parts. You will crash and you will replace. Also, make sure your plane will be easy to mod (the one you linked looks good) because you will want to go higher, faster, and do more tricks.

Did for a long time. Still have most of my stuff.
Other suggestions are all good. Make certain you can get new wings and tail structure because you will crash it.
You will need a soccer field to fly it and virtually windless days. First few times will pucker your rear end. They love trees and rough landings, both of which will wreck it.
Go for it. You're only a kid once and you're never too old to have a happy childhood.
Try to stay under a couple of hundred until you learn how to fly it.
The better ones may have linked controls that let a pro plug into your box and help you.

I fly highly recommend you go to a hobby store like Hobby Town on Airline in BR or Hammond Hobby off Airport Road on Hammond I have had mixed results buying from Nitroplanes and Bananna Hobby

Thanks. I have extensive experience racing nitro rc 1/8 scale buggies, but stopped a few years ago. I like the setup on this plane, the two motor configurations, and the two tail configurations.
There's a huge multi-acre area in Laplace right by Belle Terre golf course with no trees or power lines. It's perfect, and within walking distance of my house.
