Let me preface this by admitting that I watch Dexter. The cops frick up arrests, the DA's frick up trials, the judges let bad guys go all the time everywhere.
What would be wrong with more Dexter's out there? Do the cops and legal establishment professionals actually think that they are helping keep us safe from bad guys? And even if everything goes right, the baddies get to live on taxpayer expense for years.
Wouldn't an enlightened policy of more Dexters be a better way?

Some do. Some lie in the process, too. Mostly, they're just after a paycheck like everyone else.

They put a fair number of innocent people in jail, too...a more tragic consequence than a few crims getting away....you do realize we have one of the highest incarceration rates in the world?

I think an 'enlightened policy' of polycentric law and private courts could be a better way.

I just don't buy the pvt courts idea....in fact I find it to be preposterous. It ignores human nature.

I honestly do not understand the hostility. Reading this board has taught me that television shapes so much of our thought.
Comedy shows chart out political course, drama shows point the way on our drug attitudes, etc. So why not use the same medium to guide us in dealing with the undesirables in our society?
If the others are valid why not Dexter?

The Dexter option is better.
Look at the power and influence the incarceration industry wields. Cops, attorneys, builders and maintainers of prisons, companies that supply all manner of goods and services to support the imprisoned. You pointed out the waste and corruption in your thread. I'm just suggesting that maybe a few well placed Dexters and a lot of that taxpayer money is saved.
My TV solution is just as valid as yours, isn't it?
