| An Obama win on taxes for rich could still mean middle class takes a hit (Posted on 12/8/12 at 10:49 am)
By Zachary A. Goldfarb, Published: December 5 SNIP According to economists, if the payroll tax cut is not extended at the end of the month, it will mean at least $1,000 less in take-home pay for the average family. If unemployment benefits are not extended, 2 million people could lose their income. And wealthy people would pay far more in taxes. Yet...Obama's Saturday morning, state run media order, is this talking point headline. Does Obama really think people will fall for this?

The middle class will take a hit. The rich will just increase the price of whatever they're selling. The rich will be fine. The poor will still be poor. The middle class will bear the weight.

The payroll tax needs to be reinstated. That "holiday" helped drain already unfunded systems. And unemployment benefits should go back to their regular levels. I get providing a temporary safety net to people down on their luck. That's a good idea. But two years! You are paying people not to work. That's crazy.

Good article, Angele, but can you re-format so the quote doesn't stretch across the screen?

Sorry. I copied and pasted the article. I have no idea why it stretches to the right across the screen.

I fixed it by cutting the article out a lot. I read others posts on here all long sentenced stretched to the right. So it must be my formatting? I apologize.

But, but, but, Rachel Maddow met with Obama in the oval office and said Obama is great and the pubs want to screw the poor and eat their puppies.

Instead of cutting and pasting, did you use the 'quote' markup? That should keep it in line.

This. Except the rich will also spend less, protect assets more, and the Velocity of Money with its influence on tax revenue will remain at Post-WWII lows. The Middle Class will get hit with further increases in taxes and further decreases in employment.

Even Howard Dean gets it...
quote:
"This is, initially, gonna seem like heresy from a progressive," Dean said. "The truth is, everybody needs to pay more taxes, not just the rich. That's a good start, but we're not gonna get out of this deficit problem unless we raise taxes across the board."
Holy dogsh*t. I just agreed with Howard Dean. The middle class will indeed bear the load. It's the only possible way. The middle class has way more income than the rich. The rich don't have enough even if you took it all at current spending rates. Of course, at current spending rates, even the "middle class" doesn't have enough unless you jack rates up effective rates to around 50%... (it's the spending stupid!)

Good. Tax the shite out of the middle class. The country deserves to get taxed to hell and back for putting this character back in office. It's time for Americans to feel some pain and then decide if they like the cost of an expanding state.

Ironically, the reason across the board tax hikes will help has nothing to do with revenue. The revenue impact would be miniscule. Raising taxes for everyone, back to Clinton levels, only eats into our annual deficits by 10%. Tax hikes would give a Do-I-Have-Your-Attention-Now Slap in the face to Obama voters. They've been skipping around in a happy fog thinking fiscal issues will be shouldered by someone else. The sting of that slap might just wake them up. Tax the ever-loving sh*t out of Americans. All Americans! Do it. Please! Because there is no better way to get voters focused on the malignant nature of our deficit spending and debt.

Nancy Pelosi says that paying unemployment creates jobs. Surely you want to keep creating jobs? LINK How do you expect our leaders to fix the economy if you have crazy ideas like not spending money you don't have or expecting people to be productive? Those are outdated concepts from the age of our foolish parents who were stupid enough to work themselves into the poverty we inherited. They didn't realize the government could have given them everything they worked for and more if only they had elected the right people.

Middle class has been taking a hit. New fee's and regulations on businesses is really an indirect tax on consumers. However, it doesn't affect the majority of the left.
