| If they raise the top marginal rate to 37.9%, (Posted on 12/7/12 at 11:46 pm)
will the Democrats still claim that they are cutting taxes for the rich?

They should just go ahead and bump it up to 50% so they can feel all warm and fuzzy about how they "stuck it to the rich"... right up to the point where the economy crashes like a heroin addict on a deserted island.

Soul - my thoughts exactly, the administration isn't going to get the full 39.6 as was the law, and will find a middle ground,to save face for Boehner. Remember, under JFK, the top rate was 91%.

Since the dems are screaming that the middle class needs the tax cut. Give that to them. I mean actually CUT the middle class rates, not leave it status quo. Nancy P. and company are getting away with calling the status quo a cut. Call em on it. Do a real cut and watch them oppose a middle class tax cut and put their opposition on display for America.

No matter what the rate is, it will never be enough for the Democrats. Make it 100% and they will somehow say that they aren't paying their fair share.

So let's make federal spending as a percent of GDP to what it was under JFK.

When the Democrats proposed cutting the top rate from 91% to a mere 70%, Kennedy was opposed by 2 senators who won the Republican nomination for President: Barry Goldwater and Bob Dole.

This may be a simplistic view, but, will raising the tax rate on high income earners do any good. Aren't people in the upper tax bracket already exploiting every loophole and tax shelter possible? If their rate is increased, will they not hire another accountant and lawyer and find more expenses to apply or off shore accounts to funnel money and keep there rate what it is now. If mitt romneys rate goes from 35 to 39 will he not continue paying 15% (or whatever the numbers are)?

Get rid of the ability to utilize off shore accounts and loopholes as mentioned above. Make all income over $250,000 subject to this tax. No deductions for Olympic horses for example.

Screw you. While I don't make this much or close to it yet, it is still an attainable number and a goal for me to make one day. If you want to take half if my money for achieving this then screw it why even try. This is why production goes down as tax rates are increased.
