Just finished the 300 rounds of 230g FMJ break in period for my 1911. Time to pony up and purchase some hollow points.

What are your suggestions? I want reliability as far as feeding goes, other than that, I am all ears. I know I should buy a few and see what mine likes, but I would rather start with some that others have had success with.

Have to check, think I bought some winchester with the weapon, just haven't fired any of them yet.

Speer is another I see quite a bit, I'll keep those in mind, too.

Was looking at Bill Wilson ammo, too, but not sure about only being able to order online.

That's what everyone said about Wilson Combat mags, but my 1911 just refused to feed from the 8 round versions. Luckily, Wilson has outstanding customer service, and they sent me four 7 round mags that I broke in yesterday.

I was talking more about effectiveness and not feeding, but i see what you are talking about with feeding some guns some ammo better than others especially hollow points

I say the Federal HST, but check this guy out for more live trials/data: tnoutdoors9 on YouTube

He tests with ballistics gels and has shot just about every "common" ammo out of several different pistols.

I'll do that, thanks.

Def want to hear personal experience from you guys first, anytime you deal with someone profiting from something, you dont always get the whole story

Got about 500 rounds in the safe and have put a few thousand down my 1911s. Never had a FTF or feed problem.

Good recs. OTOH, I shoot mainly Rem Golden Saber or Speer Gold Dot, largely due to availability issues. When I first got my 1911, these two were about the only self defense rounds that weren't nearly impossible to find. I've since shot some Critical Defense, but wasn't impressed w/ accuracy or reliability (feeding issues).

Thanks! My 1911 is picky as hell, again, that's why I would rather start with rounds you guys have had success with.
