When will the Raiders and Browns be good again?

Both of these historic franchises have been completely irrelevant in the last decade...neither has made the playoffs once since the Raiders' super bowl run in 2002. I just wonder how long it will take for them to return to prominence.

The Raiders seemed to be on an upswing until that absolutely idiotic Cardon Palmer trade. They do seem to have talent though.

The Browns have just been downright shitty. No talent, no coaching, no nothing.

The current Browns have never been good.

Mark Shlereth (sp?) went on a rant the other day on NFL Live about the Raiders. He ended it by saying they (paraphrasing) "owe it to the league to get it together because the NFL is a better place when the Raiders are relavent"

I kind of agree with him.

I kind of agree with him.

As a fan of the franchise, I think this sort of 'rant' is incredibly short-sighted.

Reggie McKenzie (current GM) was handed a terrible situation. The team was grossly over the cap, with a lot of money sunk on bad players who contributed virtually nothing - and, better yet, they had almost no draft picks.

At best, the team might find a way to get enough talent to be competitive, but it will be 2-3 years before they have enough depth - this is all very optimistic, BTW - to be truly 'competitive.'

It's not Mark Davis / Reggie McKenzie / Dennis Allen who should be getting yelled at. Everything I've seen so far indicates the Raiders are moving into the modern era.

I just hope Davis has the stomach to hold out while Reggie / DA get it together. Most of the players McKenzie has brought in have been pretty good. Given more time, he could turn things around.

And, for what it's worth, Palmer is the least of the Raiders issues. The OC is terrible; the WR's don't know what routes they're running half the time; there are a ton of drops... and in regards to the interceptions, at least six have been deflections off of tipped passes that should have been caught.

Palmer isn't a great QB, but he's got no running game and very little help from his receivers.

Except for a few seasons in the '80s the browns have been mediocre since #32

The Browns are really close RIGHT NOW.

They have a bunch of really good young players and they've been really competitive this season.

They've suffered some tough, close losses this season including two 1-point losses.

They need to add some pass rushing help in this years draft but they are a team on the up-swing for next season.

I like the Browns roster, but I'm not sold on Shurmur.

They need someone to give that organization some new life, IMO.

I think the Browns are fine with Weeden, honestly.

They need to renovate the offense. It seems like they've been running the same thing for years now and they almost always find themselves in low-scoring close losses. It also doesn't help that their receivers are young and drop a lot of passes.

This team has a lot of potential to be very good in the future, IMO.

They have revamped their offense 3 times in the last 10 years.

Weeden is going to a middle of the road starter. Never going to be an elite, but Ill take him for the next 5 years to gain some stability.

Trent is going to be an annual 1000+ yard guy.

Gordon is going to be a perennial probowler, and Greg Little is looking more and more like a NFL Wideout.

We have the best LT in the game, and arguably the best center.

The defense is real solid too. Haden, Dqwell, and Phil Taylor will be pro bowlers for the future. Rubin, Winn, and Sheard are very solid. Secondary needs another corner and safety.

Needs are secondary help, offensive guards, and a pass rusher.

The Raiders are a salary cap nightmare right now so I would say the Browns have a better chance of success than they do, but neither is anything promising right now.

Why are the Browns not promising?

The raiders will never be consistently good again. The new Davis seems to be just as unstable as the last one

Yep. Watched every game this season. Team is better than the 4-8 record.

I don't think so.

He's not involved in the football operations, either. It's all on Reggie McKenzie to get the roster turned around.

Seems like the Browns need to improve their O-Line...I don't know much about the Browns that's just my opinion.
