| Apple to Move Some Production to US Manufacturing (Posted on 12/6/12 at 8:22 am)
quote:
In an exclusive interview with Brian Williams airing tonight at 10pm/9c on NBC’s “Rock Center,” Apple CEO Tim Cook announced one of the existing Mac lines will be manufactured exclusively in the United States next year. Mac fans will have to wait to see which Mac line it will be because Apple, widely known for its secrecy, left it vague. Cook's announcement may or may not confirm recent rumors in the blogosphere sparked by iMacs inscribed in the back with “Assembled in USA.” “We’ve been working for years on doing more and more in the United States,” Cook told Williams.
quote:
Cook also addresses several of the challenges Apple faces in bringing production back to the United States, pointing out once again that the educational system is not producing the expertise needed for major manufacturing in consumer electronics, but he hopes that Apple's effort can help spur progress in that area.
Apple is investing $100 million in the project. LINK

What does that even mean? I work in manufacturing making eye drops and most people around me aren't highly educated.

I wonder if any of this is related to the DoD being skittish about most pc/laptop technology made in china. I'm not up on the latest, but recall reading issues they had with continuing Thinkpads after the takeover by Lenovo from IBM.

Not if they go someplace they can get non union laborers The CEO of Toyota was told Tennessee was a good place to build a factory and did a little research and toyota built plants there. They found out that the cars built here were of superior quality than the ones built in Japan. Therefore, now all Lexus and other high end Toyota cars are built here.

What a crook of shite. Students from all over the world come to the US for higher education. Deflecting the question blaming it on the lower education.

You guys are silly Our non union laborers do a better job than foreigners. Everybody knows that. Plus if they build factories here they'll lose less to unlicensed product being sold out the back door.
