| 1984 the year and the novel. (Posted on 12/5/12 at 9:20 pm)
In 1984, would any of you have believed someone who came up to you and said that in the year 2012, our own country would be in serious discussion of using unmanned drones and other means to spy on their own citizens? I have given serious thought to this and can only say that the only way I would have believed if is if Red Dawn had come to fruition and we were now under the direct control of the Soviets, but not that we were on a fast track to being the embodiment of George Orwell's 1984. WTF happened to America? Honestly... I realize we have some seriously dumb arse people in this country and some group of retards raised them, or fed them perhaps, but how in the hell did we take such a nose dive so fast to the shitter?

It's just the nature of the state. It just so happens that the US government was able to grow at a faster than normal rate due to abundant resources, and a political bully pulpit

I'm sorry, but are you talking about planes flying overhead and looking down, maybe with high powered cameras? Seeing me in my yard when I'm mowing my lawn? Maybe watching the cars go around on the roads and possibly seeking somebody doing stuff on a street corner? Is that the scary stuff you are talking about?

Brave New World is much more like present day USA than 1984

Yeah, actually that's exactly what I'm talking about, and the absolute dumb blind trust retarded people have in an enormously powerful and corrupt government to not abuse their power you surrendered to them or our liberty and privacy we just handed over without a whimper.

Don't spoil their fun. Much of this board gets their rocks off bemoaning the power and malevolence of "the State".

9-11 happened. The drones are only there to look for terrorists and are for your protection.

This is not addressed to you specifically, but it is gonna be hilarious when all the people who don't give a frick about "big brother" today suddenly want to burn down washington a month into the next republican administration. Obama and the federal government are using drones to spy on us? NBD, he knows what he's doing and I don't really have anything to hide. Bush used drones to spy on us?!?!?!?! KILL THAT FASCIT NAZI PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Planes flying over my head does not bother me. If they could see my in my shower, that would be something else. Being seen out in the open doesn't make me feel any less free.

does an individual have an expectation of privacy in their own fenced in backyard? If I like to hang out nude in my back yard, should I be able to do so without fear of cameras flying overhead?

I live my life and enjoy it. I work, I make money and I do and say whatever the frick I want. But sense I started observing and posting on this board I've discovered that my freedom has been stolen from me and I didn't even know it.

Indeed. If they could see me in my shower I would whirl my manhood around in a circle and shout "Woo woooo! Look what I got!"

You have some expectation of privacy in a fenced in backyard, but it's diminished.

It's because you're not smart enough, VOR. Your weak little heart loves the state, too. You suck its tits or whatever.

right, so clearly my answer is no. Planes, dude. Planes. People have been flying them over peoples' houses for years, and not necessarily high above the houses. totally legally, I presume, because the shite used to happen all the time at my house when I was a kid. I thought it was cool. Sometimes it was my neighhor, who I knew had a plane. I knew what his plane looks like.

It's an erosion. Once the door is open, it's open to anything, especially with a people who are so easily sold on this as being a good idea. This is fricking frightening.
