Why do LaTech fans call ULM NLU?

Is this an insult? 
University of Louisiana at Monroe goes ULM, not NLU.
Should ULMers start using old abbreviations for LaTech as well?
The Industrial Institute and College of Louisiana = IICA
Louisiana Industrial Institute = LII
Louisiana Polytechnic Institute = LPI
Seems silly to me

that's what kind of sucks about being an LSU fan...we have no primary rival
our rivals are out of circumstance...Bama now...previously Auburn...Ole Miss slightly
maybe we develop a rivalry with TAMU, but their historic rival is UT and will always be UT

LSU sucks dick. The fact that they can't put together an offense or do more with their talent is disgraceful. Biggest under-achievers in the country.

FWIW, I got my bachelor's from there and I still call it NLU.
I do not understand why ULM/NLU and Tech cannot see how beneficial it is to both schools that they have a rivalry and play each other in football every year.

Why is NSU (Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA) always left out of all these discussions? I know we have a piss poor football team right now, but shite, we aren't even mentioned.

I wish we would play every year, but I understand why we don't. Same reason LSU won't play us or ULL every year.

Well most people say if Tech won, it would help them none...if they lost, it would be catastrophic. But my thing is, what more would Tech fans love than to shut up ULM fans? And the only way to do that is play them. So I say play every 4 years or so. That way you don't have to worry about having a "weak" schedule every year.
