Why? He was still winning games. Is it a a case of them expecting to win the NC every year?

I'm guessing they feel the team is underperforming.

National Champions in 2005, 2006 & 2007. Since then, here's how they've performed:
2008 - SoCon Champs, 11-3, #2 seed in playoffs, Lost in Qtrs to eventual National Champions Richmond
2009 - SoCon Champs, 11-3, unseeded in playoffs, Lost in Semis to Nationa runners-up & #1 seeded Montana
2010 - SoCon Co-Champs (Wofford), 10-3, #1 seed in playoffs, Lost in Qtrs to unseeded and defending National Champion Villanova
2011 - 3rd in SoCn, 8-4, unseeded in playoffs, Lost int 2nd round (their 1st game) to unseeded Maine
2012 - SoCon Co-Champs (GA Southern & Wofford), 8-3, unseeded in playoffs, Lost in 2nd round (their 1st game) to unseeded Illinois St in OT

Pretty good performance if you ask me. I know I'd be ecstatic is Nicholls State could get just 1 season like any of these. But no out-right SoCon title since 2009 and early exits from the playoffs the last 3 years can make the administration impatient. Plus, the SoCon is getting more competitive every year.

Illinois State shouldve won the game in regulation. Much better team for about 3 quarters. That App St freshman is something else...wow.

As an Illinois State alum I was so happy with the result. Feel bad for App St fans and the coach to go out on a blocked xp in OT.
