It could be worse. Pitt may be hiring their fourth head coach in three years.

you're a mid-major. Your coach leaving for greener pastures is a badge of honor.

Keep in mind, there is only one Boise State.

I have family in Lafayette, LA and they understand that Hudspeth will bolt if a decent job come available. They understand that coaching in the SBC is nowheres near as prestigious as coaching in the SEC. The Sunbelt is a stepping stone to a bigger and better job for young coaches. If you're an AD at a Sunbelt school and are looking for a longterm solution, hire an older guy with just enough tread on the tires to get you through 6-7 years.

the biggest thing I've had against Malzhan for years is his tendency to run the 'cut and run' offense. He doesn't sit still anywhere.
Left Benton H.S. in Arkansas hanging without ever coaching a game. Has a tendency to take his toys and go home if something doesn't go his way.

It's only recently becoming that because of SBC ADs making smart hires recently. But you're right, they need to have a constantly updating list of candidates in their top drawer to make sure they've got a guy ready when their guy makes the jump.

Malzahn's becoming quite the job hopper. No one seems to talk about that.

I think you can keep your coach by showing them that you are making a GENUINE effort to better the program, i.e. switching to a better conference, new facilities, etc. Plus, it wouldn't hurt to hire a guy who would only leave for his alma mater or an Alabama, USC, UT, etc. That would keep the Kentucky's, Vandy's, Texas Tech's away.

Ark. St. is always going to be stepping stone. At least the coaches coming from there have an upside on their potential.

They've choosen well on their last two hires. I though Steve Roberts was gonna be a good one for them too, but it didn't happen for him.
