the question to ask yourself if you are not a Hog or Eagle is WOuld I want this guy as my head coach if so and so left
I'd take Les over both, who wouldn't?? so that's not very fair but life isn't either

Bret Bielema is probably a better hire than Les Miles was at the time. He won 11 games at Wisconsin last year. I'd say that's a lot better than what Miles did at Okie State. He's a great hire IMO.
Gus, however, is a bad, bad hire. Auburn needs someone who's a proven winner, not a guy still figuring out the things a head coach needs to know and do. Not too mention, he's not too far removed from being a high school coach.

You can't deny that 11 wins at Wisconsin is pretty impressive. Let's see what he does with a lot more talent.

Regardless of their records/resume when they were hired, Bielema is in a 10x harder situation than Miles came into. He is entering a division that has 4 out of the last 5 national champions, possibly 5 of the last 6. He is coming into a division that has 3 10-win teams this season. He is bringing an offense where he will have to out-recruit Saban AND Miles just to have marginal success. On top of that, he is in a state with mediocre high-school talent.
But a 2-4 bowl record including 0-2 in BCS games is slightly more telling.

I absolutely agree, but it's not like the only good players go to LSU or Bama and the ones that end up at Arky turn out to suck. He'll get his share of good recruits.

12-1 in his first season, 3 straight 10+ win seasons, 2 straight 11 win seasons. Lost very close, hard fought rose bowls by 2 points and 7 points. Beat the SEC west champions Arkansas in 2006 to cap off the 12 win season. 3 straight Big 10 champs.

The thing you kept hearing coming into this season was how much the departure of key assistants was affecting the coaching staff. Those assistants left with Chryst to go to Pitt. How much of the success of the offense (which clearly wasn't anywhere near as successful this season) was due to Chryst?

well, he did a lot more with Chris Todd at QB than I'm sure most thought he would. Auburn won 8 games in 2009. We know what happened in 2010, then you have 2011. They were 8-5 that year and had Barrett Trotter and Clint Moseley at QB.
Auburn scored a lot of points while he was their OC. They didn't lose ANY games when they scored 30 points or more in that time.
