offered franklin last week which would have been before patterson and petersen played their last game

discussions take place with agents about "are you really interested in the job?". those type questions don't wait until after the season, especially when you arent playing for much (neither TCU or BSU were making BCS bowls this year)

Well I am not going out of my way to doubt you because deep down I have the same gut feeling. I am just pointing out, as you know, it's difficult for this to be accepted at face value. Otherwise I hope that these sources are trolling you because if they are right we are about to be embarrassed, badly.

carroll and gruden make me think your info is bogus. why in the world would carroll leave the seahawks?

I'm GUESSING. I don't know. This has nothing to do with what was told to me. We may have never offered either of those two. Maybe Strong is the fifth and Gundy is the sixth. Maybe Briles already said no. I don't know. I'm just trying to think of 6 possible people that could have said no.

Miles - this is basically a known fact now

untrue, Miles himself said that no offer was made, he has exactly zero reason to lie.

He and Long go way back, it is no surprise that Long conferred with a friend about who to hire, conventional wisdom says he was getting a reference re Pelini. I can guarantee you Long wasn't trying to get Miles from LSU as there is NO WAY LSU is letting Miles get away, and we all know that.

As per usual there are no sources here.

I promised that I wouldn't reveal who these people are because it could potentially affect their jobs. This is an internal matter and they are told to keep their mouths shut for obvious reasons.

But 2 people, risking their jobs, just blurted all this out to you.

Also "turned down" might not necessarily mean an official offer was extended. Maybe it was just preliminary talks that didn't get anywhere. I guess I should have had this clarified.

Been hearing it was Davis for a while now. I get the alum angle, but I would have thought the baggage from UNC would be too much.

Good luck with that.

OMG Miles said no offer was made?? Coaches NEVER lie about ANYTHING.

Again, I'm not going to sit here and try to convince you of anything. It sounds like you have a good grasp on the situation so you should probably find another thread to read because this one obviously isn't doing anything for you.

Either of these would be good hires with a strong Defensive Coord.

frick that

If it's true then Long can go frick himself. I've always been one to support him but he has no room to botch this hire

Oh and

no.
nobody "offers the job" until they know the answer, unless the AD is a complete and total retard.
it goes:
1) are you interested? if yes-
2) interview while simultaneous salary discussions take place with agent. if agreed upon -
3) offer and presser

How could you? Anonymous sources? Congrats, you're the 1 millionth Hog fan to have sources close to the situation.

So now you're claiming other people are lying to fit your spin. Only difference is, Les Miles isn't some anonymous message board poster like you. He actually might have to be held accountable for his words. So I'm gonna go with Les on this one.
