No thanks.

I've been trying to secure an South American Ford Ranger that has a 4 cylinder turbodiesel. Perfect work truck for a small farm, does really well on fuel costs and it has a good bit of torque. My '66 Chevy sucks down some unleaded.

lbert Einstein is credited with having defined insanity as "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Well, prepare for more insanity as General Motors is doubling down on green energy and plug-in cars after the disappointing sales results from previous entries into the field. The politically-motivated hype that we saw, and continue to see, on the Chevy Volt will be repeated. This time the over-hyped vehicle will be a Korean-made, all-electric Chevy Spark.

The misrepresentations from GM and the media on the Spark EV (electric vehicle) are already starting with headlines on stories (like this one from Bloomberg) boasting that the car will start at a price tag of under $25,000. Not exactly. For some strange reason, the price of the new Spark EV and the Chevy Volt are now being quoted after tax incentives. It is also interesting to note that Bloomberg quotes the competing Nissan Leaf price before tax incentives. Here is the important fact that proponents of plug-in EVs fail to grasp. THE COST OF A SUBSIDIZED VEHICLE IS NOT LOWERED BY TAX INCENTIVES; IT IS ONLY BORNE BY OTHERS.

The new Spark EV will start at around $32,000, not under $25,000 as reported. Taxpayers will pay to reimburse buyers of the vehicle (who will probably have above average income) $7,500 through federal tax credits.
Ouch !

Only if I could set in cement across the street from the White House as the newest monument. The inscription would be to the effect of showing our reverence to the mind boggling STUPIDITY it took to repeat history and keep the bucks coming in to the campaign coffers of Oboe, and into the pockets of his friends.

No. $25k is what the user pays. The car retails for $32k - govt credit.

This is a carry over product from overseas.

It will serve as a a high profile green product that isn't intended to sell in large numbers....mostly to urban liberals and gadget geeks.

A high profile product from overseas(Britain) that is street ready is a diesel powered Chevy Aveo. It gets 70 or so MPH, and our EPA will not let it be imported to our nation. Why is that the case, and who is profiting in this decision?

EPA believes diesel is evil.

If they want us to burn less fuel, they should just raise fuel taxes instead of havig CAFE, IMO.

Don't buy GM products, my protest of the bailout fiasco. That said, have only owned two of their cars, both total crap. To the point even my wife refuses to get one.

Dumbest shite ever.

Small diesel cars absolutely shite all over any hybrid and pretty much every EV in terms of operating costs.

The "green" movement in the US has absolutely ZERO credibility. Between the diesel hate and ethanol mandates, anyone arguing that the EPA is "good" is a dumbass

It still kills me to think that neither Ford, GM, or Chrysler ever thought to release small truck with a diesel.

No argument from me.

It is a very stupid move, and one of the reasons we don't have an abundance of diesel options available today. It simply costs to much to bring a European diesel to American emissions standards. GM and Toyota sell plenty overseas that get 50 mpg or more.

The domestic and Japanese companies have dozens of diesel trucks in south America, Africa, and southeast Asia that they can't bring to the US. The Chevy Colorado/trailblazer (or Holden Colorado in Australia) is a big diesel seller all over the world. The versions here are all gas powered. The Toyota Hilux is nothing but a Tacoma....and they are mostly diesel powered everywhere but here. Those things get 27+ mpg and tow 6,000 lbs.

Absolute insanity that the technological ability exist, but we don't have access to it here.
