We just took a big turn here. I kinda like that Dexter realizes he is just a person and can control himself, and turned the arsonist over to MM. If he had just been like "omg I can't kill, I'll let this guy go" I would've been disappointed. Still though, we also saw him basically not care and kill the dad anyway. So it's kinda like we get the best of both worlds. I love it.
Laguerta is getting dangerously close, and I can't wait to see how this plays out. We saw in the preview that it's the old dude that goes to question Dex. I wonder if he goes on a killing spree to wipe out those 2.
As far as Quinn's storyline, I know that some rules have to be bent, but with as good of a policeman as Batista tries to be I'm surprised that he'd just be like "oh, she needs this stuff? Ok whatever, let her go". Quinn is really fricking things up for people and it's irritating. I don't necessarily dislike his character, but I'm ready for him to finally face some real consequences for his actions.
Boy did the arsonist storyline burn out quick, no pun intended. Just seemed sort of unnecessary with no real point to the season, but whatever.
What do yall think is gonna happen these next 2 episodes? I hope we end on a badass cliffhanger like seasons 1-4 and 6, and not some crapfest like 5.

It was used to show that Dex and Deb's relationship is still important and that he does actually care about her above all others... so far.
ETA:
Not so much cares about... but least wants to hurt.

They need Quinn just so they can throw some T&A in every once in a while.
I will miss the visits to the strip club in every episode.

While Dexter has always had an abundant internal monologue, it's never produced much in the way of insight. With the arsonist on the table, he gave a speech at the end of which he realized he is just like what he was condemning. It was possibly the most significant thing to ever happen in the show, and Hannah put the idea in his head.

The 'Old Chief' knows about Dexter. Always has. He found out due to his friendship with Dex's Dad. He talks to Dexter and let's him know that LaGuerta is on to him.
Just a guess.
Just a guess.

I like that thought. I'll go a step further and say that the 'Old Chief' may have even advised Dex's Dad on what to do with him. And, yeah he would turn LaGuerta in to Dex for messing him over and ruining his retirement. He hates LaGuerta as do we all.

That is exactly what it looks like. Great stuff.
He's still going to look out for Dex.

this would be a great twist but I doubt it.
If he knew all a long, why didn't he suspect or tip off Dexter while the original bay harbor butcher investigation was going on?
Anyway, good theory and I hope you're right.

But would dex kill laguerta just to save himself? She doesnt fit the code. But maybe the code is gone now?

Hannah's dad didn't fit the code. The code is long gone IMO.

I don't think so, he saved Laguerta's arse from Miguel Prado when she was on to him.
If Dexter was to go after Laguerta for doing her job and trying to clear Doakes' name, the protagonist aspect of Dexter would be gone.

that we are aware of... Laguerta is already a heartless backstabbing bitch... It wouldn't be too far fetched for Dexter to stumble across some unknown heinous act of Laguerta's to justify killing her.
I don't think Dexter will be the one to off her if it's anything short of that. Deb or Hanna (mainly Hanna) would be the more likely suspects in Laguerta's demise.

The writers have flirted with this concept a few times over the seasons but like I said before, the code or some semblance of one is what gives Dexter his significance.

I don't think that the Chief knows anything of that nature about Dexter.
What I am saying is I feel like he has a soft spot for Dexter because of his dads friendship and all he went through.. which ultimately blinds him from seeing anything other than he needs to look out for Dex.
Just like how he was with Deb in the beginning. To me it seems like every time something is gaining on Dex he has a fortunate break. I don't believe he truly cares about getting his job back at this point, and I don't think he truly cares about Doakes.. not as much as he does Dexter. He probably doesn't care if in the end he ultimately screws Laguerta up. You see him meeting with Dexter in the previews and it almost looks as if he's tipping him about Laguerta and giving him a heads up. It's like somehow Dexter always gets a heads up.

If chief does give Dex the heads up, I wonder what happens next. If Dexter kills her, that'll look suspicious, although as far as we know chief and deb are the only ones that she's told that she's doing this new research so they wouldn't out Dex.
At any rate, it appears laguerta is gonna die soon. Who will take her position in the department? Deb?
Also WTF is happening with Batistas restaurant?

Just watched.
I kind of got the feeling that the chief knows about Dexter. Too many things already point to him for the chief to be like "oh no, it can't be him."

Yeah they kinda made it seem like he knows that dexter would be capable of something like that.
