| I don't even know what to say. (Posted on 12/2/12 at 12:50 pm)
I'm talking with this guy on FB (I don't even know him; he's a friend of a friend), and he said that entitlements and regulation is what created the middle class.

This is the problem we are dealing with when you have to fight a media that is in the pocket of the liberals. They control the narrative and the public is naive enough to believe the bull shite they shovel

Ask him which ones in particular and how they did so. People like that generally have just blanket statements like that because they heard someone they believe state it. Ask for specifics and they'll either clam up or try to change the subject.

Not too hard to figure out. More people in this country now think the government created everything, and individuals just benefited from the governments decisions.

That's what makes me want to leave the IT industry and go into teaching Civics and/or History. I don't think it would work out well though...

Here's the conversation (my post are in bold):
quote:
We've already been down the road of small government. It resulted in a wide chasm between rich and poor and no middle class to name just a few negative side effects.
quote:
When exactly was this? Are you saying the government created the middle class?
quote:
The late 19th and early 20th century. Yes, with entitlements and market regulations. It's the truth whether you like it or not.

You tell him. "So you're saying you're completely clueless" Ask him what year the last time the government actually ran a surplus was. When his answer is anything other than 1957, give him this link, and ask him if he can do basic math. LINK

Bad link is bad. That's to historical outstanding debt and doesn't show budget surplus/deficit. This is what I like to use: LINK It's from whitehouse.gov so libs can't really argue any kind of "bias". ;)

This is why I support letting the DEMs crash the economy NOW - before all of us who know what freedom and individual responsibility die out. If conservatives fight this - which will be nothing but a rear action - the people who have a memory of the true American culture will be gone and all we will have is a distant glow of excellence that nobody really understands. We have to back off and vote PRESENT - we can DEBATE the issues - and we can PROPHECY what will happen, but when the vote comes we vote PRESENT. The DEMs own the dependency vote and they are breeding more voters, and letting more of them into the country, than conservatives can hope to outvote. We have to let the leeches watch the economy crash and when there is NOBODY to give them what they are used to getting, they are going to be real mad. And not even the media will be able to blame it on the GOP. We tried to WARN you, but didn;t stand in your way. You did this to your own damned self - live with it. When the leeches start burning down the houses of t heir erstwhile 'massahs' then perhaps everyone will see what a pile of crap the DEMs have been selling for the past several decades. Let em suffer. The people who have worked hard all the while will know how to survive. Many of the leeches will disappear.

very simple response: ask him where the term "middle class" even came from. Wait for him to regurgitate whatever stupidity he picked up elsewhere, and then explain the bourgeoisie literally the first line in wiki: "Bourgeoisie (Eng.: /b??r?w??'zi?/; French pronunciation: ?) is a word from the French language, used in the fields of political economy, political philosophy, sociology, and history, which originally denoted the wealthy stratum of the middle class that originated during the latter part of the Middle Ages [b](AD 500–1500)." I hear there was a huge amount of entitlement spending and economic regulation in the year 500, thank god, otherwise we'd still be being oppressed by the rich

If it was a bad link, I'd agree with you. However it shows exactly how much the government had to borrow, each year. Budgets don't mean shite. Of course it means you have to actually do a little basic math, which seems to be something most people can't do. You can't argue any bias against the us treasury dept. They're the ones who actually keep up with it. Your link doesn't show accurate information, or didn't you notice how much the total debt added up to?
