Help me learn - is lead shot illegal?

Why choose lead over steel? Just curious, thanks.

Lead use to be the standard for waterfowl hunting, but in the mid eighties??? feds mandated a switch to "non toxic" shot (not for killing the birds you shoot, but the ones that eat grains etc where lots of hunting takes place and either digesting the lead bb's or eating lead contaminated byproduct), which the most economic was steel. Steel is much lighter than lead and therefore not as effective and much more expensive than lead. Other choices include bismuth and other alloys "heavy shot" that have similar characteristics of lead, but are VERY expensive. It is a big no no to use lead when hunting waterfowl, but does still happen, especially in places that are outside of your typical duck hunting meccas.

OB, this is most excellent news.

Glad to hear this situation may have a happy ending after all......Will the child need further surgeries in the near term, or does it seem like he will be fine for awhile?

Keep the good updates coming!

There is a movement on Facebook from some of his friends to get Jase Robertson from Duck Dynasty to visit him when he is able to have visitors. I'm not familiar with the show (forgive me), but if any of you fine fellas happen to know them it would be great to mention it. They have done similar things in the past.

The kid stood up this afternoon. No shot seen on CT scan either. He is using appropriate words, which from what I gather speech was their biggest concern bases on location of injury.
