| Were we better off with Sproles out? (Posted on 11/30/12 at 12:46 pm)
There's no denying he is a great talent and is unquestionably valuable when used properly. But just in terms of THIS SEASON with the coaching situation as is, it seems that the staff struggles more to get an effective run game going while he's in. Payton is one of the greatest play callers of all time, and he knows how to effectively utilize Sproles. But it seems that when Sproles was out, it was much easier for the curret staff to run a more effective run game. Is this because they didn't have to worry about trying to figure out how to incorporate him into the scheme. Thoughts?

No, Carmichael doesn't know how to use him.

I agree with you, but thats my point. If we can't use him correctly, would we be better off limiting his snaps?

We woulda been better if Sproles caught the fricking ball he missed and missed the one he caught.

Huge weapon and creates mismatches in space. Love having him but I get the impression teams are sending at least one person everytime he's in the game to blow him up in the backfield. He's more effective running a route but I understand you can't make him one dimensional and have defenses be able to predict what we are doing with him. I think our bigger problem lies on the O Line. We really need help there IMO.

With Payton calling the plays, he's a nightmare for any defense

I'm not discounting any of that. Yeah San Fran is a nightmare to run on. And our oline has played terrible as of late. I'm only questioning whether or not simple is better with this team. Accept that you're not Sean Payton and instead of trying to call games the way he does, go with something more simple. It's just frustrating because he's only had 4 rushes in the last 3 games. None in the last two. He's not a brusier back, but he is still capable of running, and we need to keep the D honest when he's in.

CSP returns, Sproles is back to being what he really is. A curse to defenses.

No way. That said I felt like Brees was locked onto that dump off a couple times. That lost us at least 3 and probably 7 before the half
