| The White House Proposal: Increase spending, not cut it. (Posted on 11/29/12 at 4:18 pm)
quote:
The White House is seeking $1.6 trillion in tax increases up front, as well as $50 billion in additional spending, as part of any "Fiscal Cliff" deal, Republican aides told the Wall Street Journal. The proposals, which include a permanent increase in the federal debt ceiling, were presented by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner during a visit to Capitol Hill on Thursday.

If that is true, they can go frick themselves. If I were John Boehner, I would give them the finger, turn around and walk away

Surely this is from The Onion. I see Obama placing his pinky in the corner of his mouth ala Doctor Evil....

Obama knows that he wins no matter what. If the republicans cave and give him what he wants, he wins. He also gets to paint republican congressman as cowards and allows democratic challengers to rail them for "raising taxes". If the Republicans meet somewhere in the middle, Obama still gets what he wants (more spending and tax increases) and democratic challengers can still use the "he raised taxes" line in reelection. If the Republicans hold fast to their beliefs and do the "right" thing and reject Obama's "compromises" and let the whole thing come crashing down, the GOP gets blamed for any and all problems caused by the eventual government shutdown. No matter what, Barack Obama and the democrats win and America loses.

I agree, but the problem really lies in the principle. So much for Obama compromising.

One of them, (we'll call him "a desire") said Obama was for a balanced approach and he would hold Obama to it.......

Not if every Republican in the House votes "present".

Unless the $1.6 is earmarked for debt reduction only, i.e., to apply directly to existing debt, the tax revenue literally has no positive effect for the country. One can assume they will spend it too on shite. Essentially, what Obama is asking for is $1.65T is spending increases with no debt reduction and a capless debt ceiling. I want to hear A Want and Decatur defend their boy.
