This is not meant to be a Pro-Hat or Anti-Hat post. It is just a fact. This program is 2 flukey things away from being in position to be the team of the decade. One of the flukes it its own fault, the other is totally out of its control.

A friend of mine pointed this out to me yesterday. If Oklahoma State doesn't choke against Iowa State, OSU is in the NCG. Does anyone really think LSU would not have won that game? OSU's offense is exactly the type of offense that the Chavis LSU defense feasts on.

Then, if LSU doesn't play a minute of bad defensive football against Alabama, they are in the SECCG going for a place in the NCG, which in this hypothetical would be their 3rd title. This is a defense first team, yet it was the D that failed to excecute at the biggest moment of the season. Who saw that coming?

So, if those things happen, the dynasty that Alabama is going for today would be theirs to go for.

I think it is getting that close and seeing Alabama instead get that chance is what is fueling a lot of the vitriol and outright trolling. Do we see all of this negativity if it is anyone other than the Saban Alabama program at the other end?

If LSU hadn't:

Lost 21-20 to Arkansas in 2002

Lost 10-9 to Auburn in 2004

Lost 7-3 to Auburn in 2006

LSU would have been in the SEC championship 7 years in a row.

Agreed.
And this is why all the Miles haters can suck it.

Probably not. LSU has one of the top 3 or 4 programs in college football over the last 4-5 years. The unfortunate part is that the #1 program is in our division.

I did. Lot's of people did. I know one guy who saw LSU's safeties lined up 18 yards deep and said, "Prevent defense. Let's go." He and his wife left the stadium, and didn't have to see what he thought was going to happen.

I agree with your larger point, that Miles and Saban are a lot closer than the championships suggest. And while I abhor playing not to lose, it is an insanity that almost all coaches are prone to.

Since we are playing this game. Had it not been for one of the craziest days in college football history, les would have zero national championships.

the mulligan game wasn't a fluke...it was a travesty. travesties happen...the team did not respond.

bama '12 was not a fluke...we couldn't execute a 1yd dive and bama executed the two minute drill to perfection.

we are a great football program but the fact remains that Saban has built a frickn' monster in tuscaloosa and we will have to get better if we are going to stay in the chase. how do we do that? we do it by keeping kids like Beckwith in state and on board. it really is that simple.

Holy crap. Really? That's amazing. And those two Auburn games were travesties of officiating. I just got angry about it again.

It takes a lot of luck to get to and win the MNC.

Look at how lucky ND has been this year:

- Pitt misses FG. Penalty not called on two #2's on the field for ND, which would have given re- kick.

- BS pass int call on 4th down vs. BC

- Stanford gets hosed by refs.

- Barkley gets hurt.

- K-State and Oregon lose.

etc.

Why is it yall only argue one side of this? There were other close games that went our way that could have ended in losses.

In all honesty that auburn '06 game was truly the maddest I have been at an lsu football game after it was over. I hated the play calling in that one and the refs just pissed me off. I was at that one and can remember how mad I was walking out of Jordan Hare.

you can consider that a fluke I guess (not under our control)

That is not a fluke. They lost the game. If Bama would have won on a hook and lateral type play at the end of the game, I would consider that a fluke.
