I am not well versed in the salary cap but if I recall, we have the ability to sign a player to a max deal this year. With that, who do we need to get us closer, assuming EG and AD are healthy? Is Gravy the PG of the future? What about Aminu at SF? The pickings at SF are thin. Could we go after someone like Al Jefferson to pair with AD/Ryan/Robin/Smiht? Here's a list of the FA class. Call me crazy but until CP signs an extension, he's in play.

I thought Rudy Gay was going to be a FA this upcoming offseason.?

Even if he isnt I just think having him alongside EG, AD, Anderson, and GeneralGravy would be a special team

Looking at our team(when healthy)

PG: Gravy,Roberts
SG: Pretty Good Rivers Mason
SF: Aminu,Miller,Thomas
PF: Brow,RYNO
C:Lopez,Smiht

Scenarios:

PG: IF we get CP3 back we will be completely set at this position and we would be one of best backcourts in the league.

IF we dont get CP we should sign a solid back up(Jack,Udrih,Harris) and we would probably still be fine

SG: We are set with EG(when he gets over his issue) and i like what ive seen out of Rivers lately and we would be fine but i wouldnt be suprised to see a depth move here.

SF: Aminu was a big question mark coming into the year but has greatly defied expectations and i feel OK with him i just hope he continues his solid play. I wouldnt mind signing a guy like morrow or wright to give us some more bench scoring.

PF: I dont this is an issue at all honestly

C: Lopez has been solid but if we dont land CP we should go after jefferson hard.

TL,DR if we dont get CP get al jeff and from there

I agree. If we are relying on Aminu strictly as a defensive, fast break wing, he's good enough.

Why do you guys think CP3 will come back to New Orleans?

I don't think there's 2 knees between CP3/Bynum/EG

No one's saying it's likely but until he signs an extension with LAC, there's a possibility. It's not like he has his choice among all 30 teams. Only so many can afford to bring in a max player and we are one of them. The reason he wanted out in the first place was because of the lack of direction the franchise was taking. Now we have stability and a solid FO, a coach he liked playing for and better than VDN, and the ability to join a young, talented roster. Again, not saying it's likely. We do, however, need our 2 franchise players on the court so we can show the league that we are on the rise and FA's will be intrigued.

1) He said the other night after the Clippers game that he still loves Monty and he's watched every Hornets game this season. I think Paul was always being sincere when he said he liked New Orleans but he just wanted to win.

2) Assuming the Clippers implode in the playoffs, which is the only reason he'd leave them, what other team will have a max salary slot and a more attractive roster to join? Joining Dwight and Josh Smith in Atlanta really is the only other possible competition I can come up with if he decides to leave LA. But I'd almost be happier to see that happen because it would cripple the Lakers and Clippers and move 2 Superstars to the Eastern Conference.

Someone said this the other day and the point still stands. When has the cap ever stopped a franchise type NBA player from signing with the team he wants to sign with? If Paul wants to sign with the Knicks this summer and the Knicks still want him, it'll get done. That goes for all of the other teams in the league as well. The cap is an obstacle, but it can be done.

Always, no cap space means no signing. As for S&T's, the new rules that kick in starting this offseason pretty much prevent tax teams from doing S&T's.

quote:

• 2011 CBA: Taxpaying teams have a smaller midlevel exception, can acquire less salary in trade, and cannot use the biannual exception. Starting in 2013-14, teams more than $4 million above the tax level cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade transaction.

That's practically impossible. Even if the Knicks dump enough guys like Camby and Felton to get under the tax to do a S&T, there is no way penny pinching Sterling is taking back Amare or Chandler in a CP3 trade. He'd rather have cap space than a marginal star, he's only in it for the money, not winning or even being competitive. The only way I see the Knicks being able to get Paul is if they were willing to trade Melo for him.
