It's funny how the headline focuses only on the new temporary taxes, and NOT the "deep spending cuts." I would love to know what the state's revenue looks like after the tax hikes compared to what was projected.

$177B debt?? Nope. Latest figures are $1.7B. Regarding the article, how can tax increases that were just passed and not in effect have any impact on the current recovery? I think Prop 30 will be beneficial to California in the long run. This along with the new way to calculate the rate that out of state corporations pay, along with spending cuts that have been enacted will all lead to modest growth in the next few years. The housing market is recovering as well. Overall I think these combination of things will erase the structural deficit within 2 to 3 years.

They must only count the revenue and not the debt. Something like the unemployment numbers or lack of before the election.

The prosperity is the government taking the money.

Are you serious? Those tax increases haven't kicked in yet? Man, that article is complete horse- shite then. As I suspected, it's the cuts that matter. Take note, Congress.

One thing I definitely do not miss about living and working in California is dealing with the Franchise Tax Board. They put the IRS to shame when it comes to aggressively chasing what they feel are unpaid taxes. I used the word feel because they will twist the laws and regulations to get a result that defies rational thought. The State Board of Equalization is not much better.

They are stabilizing the system a bit.

Well, Cali may be in better shape if they didn't send more than they receive from the Federal Government.

did you know, that that cute little diagram that shows the net donors and receivers, and is color coordinated so even idiots like you will see which states are the bad ones and which are the good ones, is actually absurdly misleading?! i know right?! I couldn't believe it either!

Well, maybe if they would quit sending fools to Congress who fall over themselves voting for Big Government, they wouldn't be sending so much.

Didn't Prop 30 mandate retroactive income? If it passed this November, how soon can the expectation of "revenue" show up on their budget for the fiscal year?

Yep. I forgot about that part of it. Not sure when all this cash will hit the coffers though.
