This may have already been discussed, but there are some startling similarities between the 1996 post-season and the 2012 projected post-season.

IN 1996, LSU went 6-2 in the SEC and finished the regular season 9-2. (Amended - forgot we only played 11 games in that era)

IN 2012, LSU went 6-2 in the SEC and finished the regular season 10-2.

IN 1996, LSU lost to Florida on the road and Alabama at home.

IN 2012, LSU lost to Florida on the road and Alabama at home. (At least we were competitive in 2012.)

IN 1996, LSU was selected by the Peach Bowl.

IN 2012, LSU is projected to be selected by the Peach Bowl.

IN 1996, LSU played Clemson in the Peach Bowl.

IN 2012, LSU is projected to play Clemson in the Peach Bowl.

IN 1996, LSU beat Clemson 10-7 in one of the most soporific, tedious bowl games I've ever been subjected to.

IN 2012, will LSU again beat the feaux Tigers?

I hope history doesn't repeat itself, but I don't see the Cotton Bowl passing up Texas A&M.

Let's not go too far with that. 1998 is lurking. LOL.

No we didn't. Which invalidates everything after this.

I don't know what this word means, but if it means "boring" then I agree.

We finished 9-2. Won the Peach Bowl to finish 10-2.

In 1996, LSU won the CWS.

In 2012, LSU lost to Stony Brook in the Supers.

In 1996, I was 8 years old.

In 2012, I am 24.

Sorry, you're right. 9-2. Forgot that we only played 11 games that season.

The Tigers won, but that 1996 Peach Bowl was a dull, poorly played game between 2 teams that didn't really want to be there. I recall the Clemson kicker missing at least 2 long field goals that could have won the game for them. I know about DiNardo, but Where is Tommy West now?

But to answer what I thinik is the intent of the question, I also have noticed that we will be playing Clemson in the Peach Chicken Bowl and we lost twice in both years to Bama and Florida.

The SEC has grown up quite a bit since then. We were as close to being on top then as Kentucky is now.

It really sucks that you can be #7 in the BCS and get the Peach bowl. Does anyone know if next year, with the 4 team playoff, will some of the autonmatic conference bids get tossed? I mean, why should Oklahoma, Rutgers or Nebraska be in BCS games? It is a joke.

It's not next year, but the 2014 season. As far as I understand it, the bowls have a lot more autonomy, like they used to, with the exception of the semi-final bowl games. Meaning, they are only limited by what contracts they sign and would not be forced to pick, say the Big East champion over a more desirable team if they don't want to and did not previously agree to doing so.

ridiculous. the BCS was very short sighted, in retrospect, in not anticipating the gigantic shifts on conference strength. It was based on the Big East with Miami and VT, a strong FSU in the ACC, etc. and a possible Utah 2008.

Not frickin multi-loss Rutgers and a 1-loss MAC team who Kentucky got their only win of the season after beating them by 30.

I was at that one. Never before or since have I dozed off at an LSU football game, but I did that night.

The only exciting play of the game was Aaron Adams blocking the field goal to preserve the victory.

Reminds me maybe more of the Peach in '05. 2 Top 10 teams end up having to go to the Peach Bowl. Clemson not top ten but still probably a better opponent than we would get in Cap One or Cotton.

Clemson is a horrible oponent for LSU. Beating them proves nothing, and has no real value and losing to them could happen with a mobile QB and a big play reciever. Plus having to listen to Dabo Sweeney....yuck
