Here is the article, actually an updated version on 2009. Original article was from 2001. Good read.

Why do people get it in their head that the dealer gives a frick about cash on hand?

BY FAR they want you to finance through them. They get all kinds of kickbacks and rebates then. They dont get shite if you pay in cash.

Also you would take an instant hit on resale value due to model change.

I just bought a 2012 Chevy 1500 SWB, V6, Ext Cab "WT" Work Truck with power windows, locks, bedliner and tool box for $20,500, MSRP was over 28,000. Priced this same truck 2 months ago and the best deal I could get was $24k and change. I decided to wait and see if deals got better towards end of year...they did.

I just got a 2013 Sonata today for $25900 out the door. Not sure how much I really paid for the car though. I really wanted $25500 out the door but they weren't budging, and it was the exact car my wife wanted, and the only one that could be found between 3 different dealerships. Msrp was 28,600 plus ttl it would have been $31,500 out the door.

I am have two right now, one is at 11600 off MSRP the other is at 10200 off MSRP. I think I pissed off one of the dealerships straight up told them what the deal was. It sucks to because they actually have the truck I really want.
