If you were going to make a list of qualifications necessary to be eligible for the national championship game what would they be?

Im thinking for me:
1) Cannot have lost by more than 2 touchdowns
2) Cannot have lost to a team that is not bowl eligible
3) Must have beaten at minimum of 3 top 25 teams

I don't think I would put in the must be a conference champ requirement

I'm leaning towards 4) being...must not have lost last game before the bowl game

1) Pass the eye test as one of the two best teams in the nation.

Im thinking these would be more qualifications that could keep you out

meaning...not qualifications determining which 2 teams will play, there can be more than 2 teams that qualify

For instance ND, Bama, UF, and Oregon would all qualify under these but teams like UGA and KSU would not

For the media:

1. Whatever benefits Bama the most.

Win your conference.
In ND's case, join a conference (in football) or be left out.

I would. Especially if you are splitting hairs between one loss teams.

Eye Test would mean Bama's out, UF's in.
All for this.

Make it through an 8 or 16 team playoff.

Oklahoma failed both 1 and 4 in 2003.

What if a team's starting QB went down in the 1st quarter of the first game and lost by 14, then went on to win the rest of their games after he gets back in week 2 by an average of 40 points?

Nah. Clearly, it's better to have some arbitrary requirement that only benefits (or hurts) select teams.
