Freezing a standing rib roast

Buying now, freezing, cook for Christmas. Is this a no-no?

Why would you even buy it now? To save a few bucks?

Anyway, not too toot my own horn, but on page three of this thread ( LINK) I found a recipe for standing rib roast that I used for Thanksgiving.

It was perfect IMO. But I would never freeze a standing rib roast, I don't really see the point.

It will freeze just fine, like any steak or cut of meat. But thawing out such a big hunk of meat will be a pain. There would be nothing worse than putting it in the oven with an icy center. You'd have to start thawing in the fridge a week in advance.
