| Looking to buy the wife diamond earrings as a push / 30th b-day present (Posted on 11/26/12 at 2:36 pm)
Looking for princess-cut, diamond stud earrings. Possible 2 carats total. Non-OT baller... Is 2 carats too much? Any suggestions where to go to? This would be in the next couple weeks (hopefully beat the Christmas late arriving / OT baller no-limit spending crowd).

So you want 2 moderately sized wedding ring stones on a non O/T baller budget? Good luck. To answer your question, go to Blue Nile. It's a great place to learn. For a word of warning: Large diamond earings are probably the worst piece of jewelry for non ultra socialites to wear. They are too flashy for daily use and monstrously expensive, with very little intrinsic value. Small studs are nice and appropriate.

Also, if they are worn in normal daily situations everyone will assume they paid $20 for them and they are plastic, CZ or whatever.

Thanks for the recommendation. His sale is only for earring pairs and they only hve round cut. Full price for princess cut, but it gives me a good idea about cost for the different sizes, color, etc.

This is exactly what I'm getting the wife in May when our little bambino arrives. My advice is I would not go larger than .75 carats each. She tried on both and the 1 carat is just a bit too much.

it really just depends on the size of the person, the setting, and the cut of the stone. 2ct is big. I'd say for a small to medium person .50ct (each ear) and for a medium to larger person .75ct

No offense, but, do you know the difference between wholesale and retail and dealer cost? You should have already ordered a selection of diamonds. You get it, you get to pick the diamonds with the grades attached. It's common... May I suggest a colored diamond? Try the fancy yellow...the blue, green, red, pink, and black diamonds are available. Do not use a retail jeweler, otherwise you'll pay 200-1000% over the cost of the diamond. Good luck...I do know a great jeweler in Milton, FL...He'll sell you the diamonds for cost and shipping and make his money off of the mount. It's all about the grades if you want to resell or insure. Read about it....
