I want to thank the OB on the help on all my questions on purchasing my first firearm.

Today I purchased a Core 15 base rifle that I am going to have a blast using learning about shooting.

I am needing to get a back Magpul flip up sight and possibly a Magpul grip to start out with.

Out of curiosity, is the iron sight on the barrel of these rifles changable so that I can put a flip up on the front as well? Would that be the best way to go?

You can take them off and they sell gas blocks with a flip up sight already on there for around $100 or just the gas block for around $80 at Jim's firearms. I want to say magpul makes their rear flip up sights to co-witness with the front post though

I still have a lot to learn when it comes to it all, but I was looking to be able to have flip ups on front and rear first as a piece to help me with learning rifle skills. Secondly I would like them as backups to an optic that i put on.

Mine is set up the same way you want yours. I had the front post removed and a gas block installed in its place. Then I just mounted a magpul flip up sight on top of it

How much did it cost to get that done?

This isn't really necessarily unless you prefer a smooth look with the sight removed.

I have a 12 power scope on my rifle with the standard A2 gas block on the front and it goes completely invisible when looking through the optic.

Congrats on your first purchase!! You'll be obsessed after your first range visit.

And oh yea...

Well I got raped but it cost $165 for the block and to have it put on. I didn't know what I was doing so I let Jim's do it for me. Turns out its a pretty easy job.

Congrats on your rifle
I'd put a fine scope on it & take the iron sights off

I plan on putting a scope or optic on down the line but feel that it may be best for me to learn riflemanship through iron sites first.

Any ammo brands that would be recommended? Lower cost would be nice but of course stuff that wont eat up my rifle.

Again, I don't think it's necessary to remove the sights if it will cost you a bunch more money. But if you want to do it for cosmetic/dimension reasons, have at it.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to email you. Where did you end up buying it from?

Local dealer. Maybe in the future I will feel comfortable buying from a website but since this was my first go around I figured it would be best to go to a B&M. I will end up paying more, but I need to learn a lot so this will help.

Wow! That's fricking highway robbery. That dude fricked you to death! You can buy gas blocks online for less than 30 bucks.

I've never installed one, but I hear the roll pin can be a pain in the arse. But $165 is outrageous.

Did you wait until the game to make your purchase? Wise move if so.

I bought a fly rod while the MSU was still on. I'm like a woman with the self-medicating purchases.
