When a coach reportedly puts out "feelers" towards another coaching position what does that supposedly mean?

I imagine it's something like when you were in elementary school and you liked a girl but you told her friends hoping they would tell her. Then you might get word if she liked you.

Great analogy. In this case your agent is the girls "friend". He makes a phone call or leaks it out to the press.
