Been looking to get my first bow. (Posted on 11/21/12 at 7:46 pm)
Always used a rifle and didn't have much intent to get one. I feel as if I have accomplished as much as I can with a rifle. What would be a good first bow for around $400 or cheaper if you so believe? TIA
ETA: I can handle all the logistics with my pull, just need a good start.

Personally I'd jump on Craigslist and get you a used bow to start out with. For $400 you can get you a nice brand but a few years older instead of buying a new one but a low quality brand. Find you a BowTech or Matthews. Both are as smooth shooting as you can get.

In that case check out EBAY or Craigslist for a used Mathews Switchback or Switchback XT. They are still one of the best hunting bows mathews has ever built. You should be able to find one fully rigged in that price range.
If you go with a Mathews you'll need to know your draw length before you buy. The Solo Cams are draw length specific and require you to change cams ($50 or so) to change the draw length.

I believe there are brand new Fred bear ready to hunt packages in that price range. Fantastic bows and by a good ways the bet bang for your buck currently.
