I have a hitch in my putting stroke and can't get rid of it. Anyone else ever experienced the "yips"?

I've played 9 holes and have had a birdie putt on every hole and I'm +2 only bc I hit a 4 iron to a foot for an eagle on a par 5

I've been a good putter in the past but I'm about to just quit

Try a different grip.

I suggest the ten finger grip or even cross handed. If that doesn't work, take all of your change out of your right pocket and put it in your left pocket.

Stop focusing on the hole and focus on the ball. On short putts, don't slow down your stroke...just use a much shorter stroke and keep it the same tempo.

Good luck.

on 4-5 foot putts? try a cross handed grip, that helped me tremendously.

other tips you might try

1. only pull the putter back about three inches
2. close your left eye
3. keep your head still, don't move it throughout the stroke until your right shoulder hits your chin

it's probably just alignment, everyone goes through a rough patch because of this. If it's not that and you are leaving them short...hit it harder!

They are better when they are at the course, no doubt.

I've been playing on mediocre greens for about 2 years now and it's just depleted my confidence and its not just short putts I have a hitch. It causes me to rush my stroke and pull every putt

Man, I had the same thing happen to me. Short and long putts, I just couldn't putt well at all. I switched to the long putter and what a difference it made. I went from high 30 putts per round to high 20's to low 30's. I have so much more confidence from 10' in!

Visualization was the key for me. I would stand behind it and just visualize it dropping in the hole, sound and everything several times.

It works.
