Local Cajun Microwave builders? (Posted on 11/21/12 at 11:11 am)
Is there a place in the Lafayette area to get a Cajun microwave? Al Simon in Breaux Bridge makes really nice ones, but a little too pricey, and I'm not sure about the la caja china quality. I'd rather one locally made.

I can send you plans to make your own from a sheet of plywood. You just have to find someone to make the steel pan on top. It won't be purdy but it cooks a pig.

ETA: I'll even build it for you, but you would have to find someone to weld a steel pan for the top. I'm working on tweaking the design to work with disposable aluminum trays, but am not sure it would hold the heat in well enough.

I built one several years ago from plans I bought off of eBay. I increased the size to accommodate a larger pig. I had a local sheet metal guy do the inside out of stainless with a drain. The top is just regular steel to hold the charcoal. I made the wooden part out of cypress. One improvement would be wheels. May add those in the future
