| Head Coaching Resume (5-19 record, 10 straight losses) (Posted on 11/21/12 at 8:38 am)
How in the world did Gene Chizik get hired at Auburn? Seriously, Auburn fans. What's the story on this? This isn't a flame. I'm just wondering how this ever happened without the AD being run out of town, the entire Board of Directors being fired, and every Auburn fan rioting against the school.

Because Jay Jacobs has had a hard-on for Gene Chizik ever since he was a coordinator at Auburn under Tuberville. The guy could have been 0-24, and Jacobs would have still brought him in. It's also the reason that if Jay Jacobs is allowed to make the decision on whether to fire him or give him more time, Chizik will still be at Auburn next year. They don't have a boss/employee relationship. They have a friend relationship.

10 straight losses. 10 straight losses. There is no team in the SEC that would hire a coach who had lost his last 10 games as a head coach, except for apparently Auburn. Heck, I bet if we went and looked out over the course of the last 50 years, there are less than 5 coaches who've been hired at any NCAA school who had lost their previous 10 games as a head coach. Seriously, I'd be curious to know if that has ever happened before at any school, much less a BCS school. It is just unfathomable how this was allowed to happen.

Muschamp was ready to sign the contract, his only stipulation was that Jay Jacobs be fired. Jacobs had to find a way to save his ass.

at least Chizz had DC experiences. Dooley had zero coordinator experience & a losing record at La Tech.

even better question: How do you hire a coach with 10 straight losses to compete with your biggest, and in-state rival, Alabama who has probably the best coach in the country? I could see Chizik outcoaching Shula, but Saban?

yeah, but Tenn got screwed with timing because of Kiffin leaving so late. And, they rushed instead of hiring a temp coach like Arky did. Plus, Dooley didn't lose 10 games in a row. and, he swore to wear orange pants.

Did you know Chizik lost 10 games before being hired at AU? Did you?

We get it, he still went undefeated at Auburn which can't be said for some SEC coaches.

:golfclap: the question was how does a program at the level of Auburn even let that happen. How does the fanbase and University allow the AD to get away with that hire? Yeah, it seemingly worked for a year when you outbid State for Cammy Cam, and then Chizik got even more money. But, that doesn't mean it was a good decision. It was a terrible decision that wouldn't be tolerated by any other team in a major BCS conference, much less the SEC.

Dude won the National Title? If I told you can win the national title but you will have 3 bad years you would say? His hiring hasn't been a disaster but I agree it's time to move on.

the hiring itself was a failure by the administration. buying Cam for one year doesn't change the fact that they made most probably the worst SEC head coaching hire in 20 years, 30 years, 50 years?
