| I'm starting to think the Republican House of Rep should just cave in (Posted on 11/20/12 at 10:57 am)
Give Obama what he wants: increase the marginal tax rate on small businesses making over $250,000 and on all individual taxpayers making more than that amount. The amount of deficit reduction would be almost nil. But the small business employers would lay off a massive number of people. The unemployment rate would go back over 9%. Tell Obama he owns the new recession. Let the US's credit rating be downgraded again. The Fed has already said it can't keep rates low if the deficit problem is not addressed. Maybe we have to burn the house down before we can rebuild it.....

I agree with this. The Democrats obviously have the mandate. Let them take ownership of the recession we are in by allowing them to increase the tax rates.

What needs to happen and what will happen. It's just a matter of when, rather than if. It might not happen this year, over the next four years, or over the next 10 years. But it will happen. Eventually.

And in the end, the evil rich will still be rich, the vaunted middle class will be poor and the poor will be poorer.

That's going to happen anyway, due to Obamacare - probably 9.4 or 9.5 by June - it will go back down, though, because they front loaded the U3 number during the first term. The fact that the U6 is probably headed for 18 or 19 doesn't seem to register with the MSM - conseratively I estimate of the current 14 to 14 1/2% U6 number, about 1/3 have not held full-time work during the Obama administration - a growing, permanent unemployed/underemployed class is just what the doctor ordered for future US economic stability, don't you think?

If it happens, then the GOP should only allow precisely enough votes to let it pass. No need to force tea party congressmen and other vulnerable reps that could be defeated in a primary or general election because of raising taxes, to be the sacrificial lambs. Only the super safe reps should have to walk the plank.

Ordinarily I would agree, but as evidenced this year, the majority of voters in the United States could care less about actual facts/policy and more about who their favorite celebrity is voting for.

I agree in principle but the problem is the Dems own the liberal MSM which will always find a way of assigning blame to the Pubs. I can see it now: the Republican Congress was responsible for a double-dip recession while Obama and the Dems were simply trying to compromise/not persist in the usual partisan politics. Really the only way the Dems can be held responsible is if they completely control the government aka overwhelming majorities in Congress, the Supreme Court and the Executive branch. Even then the media would probably suggest that blue-dog Dems were the underlying cause of the debacle.

It looks like its a race to the bottom now anyway. The sooner you get there the sooner you can start climbing back up. Not my choice, but the voters have spoken and this is what the majority wants.

I agree. Gift wrap the economy and hand it to him with a bow. Do it with fanfare, speeches, "here ya go Barack"... Let America feel Obamanomics and really enjoy it.

I have been SCREAMING this since 2008. Let's find the bottom. Let's bring the markets back to mathematical reality, with debt and unpaid liabilities factored in.

I think they just should just vote "present" like Obama did on controversial votes. They would count towards the quorum but would not be on record supporting the tax increases. Let Obama strut his stuff as he signs the higher taxes bill into law. Show a video of that signing when the recession hits.
