| The CIA asked the White House and Congress to not refer to Benghazi (Posted on 11/16/12 at 8:37 pm)
as a terrorist attack. Congressional Republicans knew this, yet still attacked the president over it. LINK

if just what you said in your OP is true (haven't read the link yet), does it mean Petraeus was pushed out because his idea got the WH in a jam?

Please point out where in your link the CIA asked anyone "to not refer to Benghazi as a terrorist attack." I don't see it.

quote:
Some intelligence analysts worried, for instance, that identifying the groups could reveal that American spy services were eavesdropping on the militants — a fact most insurgents are already aware of. Justice Department lawyers expressed concern about jeopardizing the F.B.I.’s criminal inquiry in the attacks. Other officials voiced concern that making the names public, at least right away, would create a circular reporting loop and hamper efforts to trail the militants. Democrats said Mr. Petraeus made it clear the change had not been done for political reasons to aid Mr. Obama. “The general was adamant there was no politicization of the process, no White House interference or political agenda,” said Representative Adam B. Schiff, Democrat of California.
CT's question stands: If he doesn't know when the reference to AQ was taken out, how does he know why? Otherwise, I buy it.

And so, in response to this request, the White House blamed everything that happened in Benghazi and Cairo on a video which then ignited MORE protests and caused the deaths of dozens throughout the Middle East in its aftermath?

WASHINGTON — David H. Petraeus, the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, told lawmakers on Friday that classified intelligence reports revealed that the deadly assault on the American diplomatic mission in Libya was a terrorist attack, but that the administration refrained from saying it suspected that the perpetrators of the attack were Al Qaeda affiliates and sympathizers to avoid tipping off the groups.

It was the anniversary of 9-11 and Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility. Why would the CIA not want to "tipoff" Al-Qaeda that they knew that Al-Qaeda was responsible even though Al-Qaeda was claiming responsibility?

because it wasn't "bin laden & co" al qaeda. come on, man. plus see my other post. just because people claim responsibility doesn't mean it has to be acknowledged. There are logically some strategic advantages to keeping quiet the fact that you know who may have done it. fricking cops do this all the time, right?

BS. THen the right answer is to say "we don't know, we are still investigating" and leave it at that. No one will call you out for it. they understand that one. Instead we got the youtube crap. They have only themselves to blame.

I've said this before: the youtube shite was happening, and it was an event in its own right that arguably needed to be addressed by our head of state. Then the attack happens in the same region of the world. Of course both were being discussed at the same time. They were discussed in the same speech.
