Yea, can't stand this tax either, but ya know taxing the same money 6-8 times is ok with some ppl. We need more shared sacrifice and your not paying your fair share, blah blah blah.....

Why should your children get to benefit from your sacrifice and success? They didn't do anything except be born to lucky parents. The money is much better spent for the greater good by giving it to the government to distribute as it sees fit in its infinite wisdom and efficiency.

Hopefully you'll die during a Republican/conservative administration. Death taxes are suspended when conservatives are in power.

Death penalty? Who is being penalized? The persons having to pay inheritance taxes are not dead. It is what it is... inheritance taxes.

What is really bad about taxing the same money multiple times is the libs act indignant that the tax rate is not high enough. They want all money taxed like it is ordinary income. Hence they tut tutting at Romney's effective tax rates. Sickening

Much of the value of estates is in real property or equities whose appreciation had never been taxed to the deceased. That part, at the very least, should be taxed. But in a society which purportedly views and treats people as individuals rather than as extensions of their parents, inheritance taxes are almost too lenient. I think heirs should feel fortunate that the entirety of estates are not taxed at regular income tax rates.

What about yearly property taxes? Is that not calculated on the value?

I think you should move to North Korea and pay all the taxes you want. In fact, I think you should be a farmer in North Korea and learn to use a team of horses and a hand plow because those communist fawks can't even afford tractors. I think you should feel more fortunate to live in our greedy capitalistic somewhat free society where you actually have the ability to move out of the bottom 20% to the top 30% by just paying attention in your public school, graduating, and knowing how to properly fill out a job application. I am also baffled by your thinking that I should feel fortunate that the government isn't owed all my shite and this is somehow my great fortune. Do you actually believe that?

I agree. Heirs are lucky they should get anything at all, especially when this income, which isn't really the "family's" money. It doesn't matter that this money has already been taxed a couple of times already (especially if your stupid parents ran their own small business). It's the Government's money first, family second.
