Flame if you want, because this has been mentioned previously, but I am so impressed with the job Johnny Jones has done in such a short time. Is this what yall expected? Are yall shocked as well? 1. KENTUCKY 2013 commits (National rank) SG Aaron Harrison (4) PG Andrew Harrison (5) SG James Young (10) PF Marcus Lee (18) PF Derek Willis (129) It shouldn't come as any surprise that John Calipari and the Wildcats find themselves sitting in the top spot. Cal and the Cats are going on five classes in a row in which they've hauled in the top class in the country. The Harrison twins are a physical, skilled and complete combo at the one and the two while Young can be an explosive wing scorer. Marcus Lee is a shot eraser with developing offense while Willis is a faceup four man who will have time to develop. 2. KANSAS 2013 commits (National rank) SF Brannen Greene (25) SG Wayne Selden (26) PG Conner Frankamp (31) PG Frank Mason (134) C Joel Embiid (NR four-star) It wasn't so long ago that some Jayhawk fans were wondering if Bill Self had lost his recruiting mojo. Clearly that's not the case, as there is a monster class on the way to Lawrence. The race for 2-4 in the team rankings but Kansas gets the nudge based on the projection that Embiid is around a top-35 level player, giving the Jayhawks four players ranked there or higher. 3. INDIANA 2013 commits (National rank) PF Noah Vonleh (7) SF Troy Williams (38) SG Stanford Robinson (51) C Luke Fischer(116) SF Devin Davis (122) SF Collin Hartman (NR 3-star) On the heels of 2012's monster class, Tom Crean and his staff have already put together a pretty good group. A five-star prospect, Vonleh surprised by giving an early nod and he gives the class star power. Williams is a very athletic wing while Robinson is a playmaker off the dribble and will defend. Fischer will be a solid Big Ten pivot man, Davis is a versatile defender and Hartman can stretch defenses. 4. MEMPHIS 2013 commits (National rank) PF Austin Nichols (20) SF Kuran Iverson (27) SF Nick King (40) SG Markel Crawford (53) PG Rashawn Powell (101) It's very clear, Josh Pastner can hold his own with the nation's recruiting heavyweights, and the Tigers have put together an impressive group for their foray into the Big East. Nichols is a five-star local who can rebound, play above the rim and adds a physical edge. Iverson is a long and lanky scorer who can play at either the three or the four while locals King and Crawford add even more wing firepower. Powell is an athletic floor general who will push the pace. 5. FLORIDA 2013 commits (National rank) PF Chris Walker (8) PG Kasey Hill (9) Head coach Billy Donovan and his staff are off to one heck of a start in the class of 2013. The Gators shut down the state borders to lock up a five-star point guard in Hill and a five-star big man in Walker. Walker and Hill also provide the athleticism and have plenty of experience playing together in the summer. 6. LSU 2013 commits (National rank) PF Jarell Martin (12) PF Jordan Mickey (41) PG Tim Quarterman (66) C John Odoh (JC 3-star) PF Deng Deng (JC 3-star) After some early grousing, fans in Baton Rouge have to be excited about their new coaching staff's recruiting. They scored a big win when they locked down a local five-star in Martin and he'll be an impact player. Mickey is a combo forward with a great motor and athleticism while the multi-positional Quarterman is one of the nation's more versatile players. The junior college transfers, Odoh and Deng, should add size and athleticism to the frontline. 7. MARQUETTE 2013 commits (National rank) PG Duane Wilson (54) SF Deonte Burton (55) SG JaJuan Johnson (64) PF Jameel McKay (JC 4-star) PG John Dawson (NR 3-star) The city of Milwaukee has been producing more and more talent of late and Buzz Williams and his staff look to be building a fence around the city. Wilson is an attacking guard who is built to score while Burton is a big time athlete with strength who rebounds and competes. In McKay, Marquette has a high volume rebounder and one of the premier junior college players in the country. After locking up the local talent, they reached into Memphis and nabbed the athletic Johnson. 8. LOUISVILLE 2013 commits (National rank) SG Anton Gill (48) PG Terry Rozier (2012 80 4-star) PG Chris Jones (JC 4-star) PF Akoy Agau (86) Thanks to a big-time junior college player and another solid high school big man, Rick Pitino and the Cardinals staff have put together one heck of a class. Point guard Chris Jones is arguably the best junior college player in the country and will warrant five-star consideration. Akoy Agau is a big man with skill and they join four-star shooting guard Anton Gill and 2012 holdover Terry Rozier to make a nice class. 9. DUKE 2013 commits (National rank) SF Semi Ojeleye (33) SG Matt Jones (35) The Blue Devils should be feeling pretty good about the wing help they've secured. Both shooting guard Matt Jones and small forward Semi Ojeleye are active scorers and both will be in contention for McDonald's All-American honors. 10. ILLINOIS 2013 commits (National rank) SG Kendrick Nunn (45) SG Malcolm Hill (67) C Austin Colbert (92) PF Maverick Morgan (NR 3-star) PG Jaylon Tate (NR 3-star) John Groce and his staff and company got a late start on the class of 2013 but have done a great job. A product of Chicago's public league, Nunn was a major score and he and Hill should be a nice wing combo. Colbert is a fluid big man who can run the floor while Morgan has the size and skill to play at the four or the five. Tate is another Chicago product and a steady hand at the point. Johnny Jones

No. They're tracking his academic progress and vetting him for a spring signing. As I've said before, he's only a frosh at the JC he's at. If he signs this year, I believe he would have 4 years to play 3. With the tepid reaction to his play in the BRCC game, I'm wondering if they are going to let him stay at the JC one more year, or if he red shirts if comes over for next year. If there is no attrition and he comes in, we would still have enough front court depth to allow him to RS and develop physically.

This. I thought he'd do a little better recruiting wise than Trent only because it's probably harder to do worse than Trent did. That being said, CJJ is doing work! Real Work! And I know I'm excited about the future of LSU basketball again.

I read this messag on the board this morning and i actually thought it was somehow a mistake. Lsu couldn't possibly be ranked that high in recruiting in basketball. Glad to see it is fo real.

John Brady brought in some highly ranked classes while he was here. Trent was just so terrible at recruiting.

So once these guys are in and playing their first year, where do you think that puts LSU as far as the types of seasons we can have. Are we talking making the tournament, winning a game or two in the tournament or are we just talking at that point that we should be competitive in the conference but not really tournament material yet?

The teams in that top 10 in recruiting reminds me of NCAA Basketball in 1986-87, which was the greatest time to be an LSU basketball fan.

Trent was straight up handcuffed in recruiting. After the previous sanctions he was told not even the slightest questionable recruiting would be tolerated. Now those cuffs have been removed. Jones has the full go ahead.

Brady would have highly ranked classes, then promptly run them off.

Top 3 SEC, NCAA Tourney bound. With the signed players we will be very solid next season, and Jones can still bring in players in the Spring signing period.

I doubt this. With the previous allegations on him from his days under Daddy Dale I doubt he is getting more freedom to make "questionable decisions" than Trent. No excuses, Trent just didn't cut it. He wasn't likeable at all.

I'm excited. however, i want to see these guys on campus before i get overly worked up. appears we are going after talented b.b. players as we should. however, a lot of them have been high academic risk. The power forward from iowa st. didn't make it, odoh, is still trying to make it, deng deng, having grade issues, mickey is ineligible at his high school, who knows if he will be eligible at the college level. if he can get these kids on campus and playing for the tigers, then it's time to get excited.

I do too...It's not good when a high profile Louisiana recruit that Trent really needed to sign, Ricardo Gathers starts saying derogatory things about Trent...LSU b-ball had a very dismal future with Trent as the coach.

I know I say this every time Trent comes up in one of these threads, but it's because it still shocks me. I can't believe how he never bothered to use all of his coaching staff spots or all of the allotted scholarships. It's like he was intentionally handicapping himself.
