Will link this when home. But they voted to give the federal government control of children. ....... Somethings just baffle me. It's unreal how people think or I guess I should say DON'T think.

LINK LINK

A proposed “Children’s Rights” amendment to the Irish constitution will make children “creatures” of the Irish state, totally subject to the whims of state officers, who can order them adopted out to strangers without even judicial review, an American legal expert has warned.
Yikes!! It passed!! LINK

There is a slight chance it will be overturned. Ireland's supreme court ruled that the governments massive effort, public spending and promotion for its passage was unconstitutional just days before the vote. Apparently, while the government has a duty to inform the public about implications in law or legislation, it cannot with bias influence a vote using public funds (which it did). I expect a petition will be launched but in the end a three way panel of judges will decide and history makes it unlikely that it will be repealed.

Now thats a great law! Add to that "if you use public funds to influence a vote, the legislation is void" That's even better!

What this law does is give the parental rights to the government. What's scary is that as such, there is no judicial review. A parent will not have the opportunity to argue or present his/her case in court. Say goodbye to the presumption of innocence and the burden of proof. This is crazy.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more media coverage. I had never heard of this until this thread posting.

Would not doubt it becoming a thought here.... The argument.. Christians are brainwashing kids to hate gays and gov... it must be stopped. Only the Gov can raise children the right way!

First, I think everyone one here agrees that not everyone in the world should be able to parent. Sometimes they suck at it. They still should have an opportunity to prove they can do it (i.e. existing CPS process in the U.S.) if the child really is in danger. Not only is this HUGE overreaching on the part of the Irish government, the cost has to be astronomical. How can they possibly police this?

I'll do ya one better. People should have to pass an aptitude test to breed and a history/political test to vote.

My method would be easier to enforce as well.

Couldn't they have just instituted rules that made child abuse illegal in all of it's forms (sexual, physical, verbal, emotional, etc.) and formed something like CPS to ensure that children were in safe environments? I'm fairly certain they already had laws like that in place. Is this, then, an admission that those laws didn't work? If it is an admission, isn't that tacitly an admission that their government couldn't handle one task and that increasing it's authority wouldn't solve the root problem? I'm 100% in favor of governmental and law enforcement involvement in cases where children are being hurt in any way, but this is like saying "Food poisoning is bad. Food poisoning comes from food. We will eliminate food. No one will be poisoned."

Cost would actually be astronomically less. No pesky courts and parental rights law to deal with. A government agency or member of can knock on your door, take your child without due process, and give it away to a stranger.
