Livingston first analyzed all of the unsportsmanlike conduct penalties — including the “excessive celebration penalty” — leveled against NFL athletes during the 2010-2011 NFL season. Livingston and Hall found that although the percentage of black and white players in the NFL was 65 percent and 31 percent, respectively, 92 percent of the unsportsmanlike conduct penalties during that season were against black players.

Well white players don't score they are usually lineman

Are they saying that similar actions by white players were not penalized or that black players more likely to excessively celebrate?

If the NBA can institute the 3 pt line to give white guys a chance, I dont have a problem letting them celebrate all they want when they do score in the NFL

Kind of irrelevant data since most non-QB skill position players are black.

Well, there are more African Americans at skill positions that score touchdowns.

just from what he quoted, it sounds like the later.
First thing that jumped out at me is, he listed the % of black and white players overall. More telling would be the percentage of black and white players that score TD, get sacks or what ever plays lead to those type of penalties.

He is using penalty statistics to justify his research, which shockingly proves his point that blacks are over-penalized. He should have just said he thinks blacks are unfairly treated because those statistics in no way support his research.

Probably because black players are more likely to score.

That's what has been called scientism. He's just confirming his predetermined bias using a made up stat to prove his point. Clearly certain positions are more likely to score TD's that other's it would be more informative to break those positions down by race.

This.
And white players usually aren't scoring in the actual endzone. They are QBs and OLineman normally.

A) there are a shitload more black players scoring than white players
B) Look at one game and you can easily tell the black players have a larger celebration more often

Or get total number of white guys that actual get the ball in the endzone DIVIDED BY the total number of those same guys excessive celebration penalties
And do the same thing for black guys.
Also, I would have no doubt black people get more penalties, but they are also the ones that excessively celebrate more.
I never see Wes Welker, Jordy Nelson, Woodhead, Decker, or Jason Witten celebrate much at all.
Gronk gets down wit it though
