Corey White and Isa Abdul-Quddus

Corey White is a rookie out of Samford and was used and abused early in the season, but had a really good game last week and has been playing better over time.

IAQ is a 2nd year player out of Fordham and has played mostly on special teams. He's getting more playing time recently and has done a pretty good job. You still see him take a bad angle here or there, but he's done really well other times.

I think Corey White is our new version of Randall Gay. Can start for a couple of games if needed and be a really good nickle/dime back. Not sure he will ever be covering a Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald though.

I'd like to see IAQ get some more PT and let Harper play more LB/rover. Not sure if he's starer material yet, but he's been good so far and I think he will get better with more reps.

What does ST think of these guys?

I really like Quddus. I notice him when he's out there and I think with more experience he will be a really good player. He definitely likes to put big hits on receivers.

I think the guy on the back wall should start at DT over Sed Ellis.

ETA: I like IAQ more than White. Both have potential

I'm more about White now.

I think that dude might be really something.

These guys are both young and talented. And they have been steadily improving. White's INT was money.

I would really like to see some plays where Jenkins plays corner across from Greer, let White play nickel and IAQ play FS.

IAQ I like. Dunno if he is ready for fulltime primetime versus Harper but at $555,000 next year vs. $15mil the next two years for Harper I might consider the move

What can ya say about a 5th Rd pick that was playing at Samford (less than 3000 undergrads) this time last year. Now he's covering Jordy Nelson & Julio Jones instead of WRs from Furman & Elon. Quite a giant step! It was painful to watch as he started but he's improving steadily. Gotta love the Saints sticking with no scholarships. He outrightly won the spot from second year 3rd Rder Johnny Patrick.

I like it.

I think it really gives us flexability to have IAQ, Harper and Jenkins on the field at the same time with Jenkins at CB/Nickle or Harper at LBer.

The phrase "he gets better every week" gets thrown around too often, but I think that it actually applies with these guys.

Think about it. With those 3 on the field, the offense would have to decide:
Jenkins - CB/FS/SS/Blitzer
Harper - LB/SS/Blitzer
IAQ - Saftey/Corner/Blitzer

It would be fun to watch.

Both guys have been making a favorable impression lately. I'd like to see more of IAQ myself.

Either Jenkins and IAQ or Harper and IAQ.

White was projected as a safety coming out of college but the Saints never waivered starting him at CB.
I know many have blasted our secondary this year but I have always thought it had depth and quality. Its the safeties and D-line preasure that has made them look worse than they are. Greer started slowly from injury and P-rob has took a step back a bit this year.
IAQ is getting reps at FS which I think all agree is a good thing. Probably no greater wish among Saints fans than a upgrade at SS and FS next year. From the livingroom its hard to see IAQ made plays or evaluate but its obvious Spags see's something there.

Now if JP can get his sh!t together in Spags system we are looking deep.

And here's hoping Bush 25 can bring something too.

So with him IAQ and Jenkins we can just run roving CB/Safety packages where the D never knows who is playing where and who is matching up with who.

Time to usher in the new era of defense.

I can't remember but didn't they say versatility in Def players was a Spags hallmark?

Yeah. It goes to his defensive play style of letting players choose what they need to do on each play. If you put guys who are "jack of all trades" kinds of guys out there (like our developing DE/DT players, NASCAR package i think) it makes for a hell of a time on offense and it makes things like goal line stands and big plays happen.

He really didn't in the past or currently now play the traditionally FS/SS pairings back there, which requires more intelligent, versatile guys at safety.

Interesting enough, Harper is playing better this season than he has in years, IMO...

Agreed.

I thought he'd never figure coverage out.

this

Think more left and right safety than free and strong. Jenks is definitely gonna be over the top more . Harper will be in the box more. But their roles are a lot more interchangeable in SpagNOLA D. As the NFL continues to grow more pass happy this trend increases as well.

Was IAQ the one that let Roddy get behind him on that heart-stopping bomb Ryan threw late in the game?
