| Why I voted for Obama (Posted on 11/13/12 at 10:13 pm)
I'm a hunter and fisherman, which makes me a conservationist and strong proponent for the protection of the environment. Even though I fall in line with almost every tenet of progressive, liberal thinking, I can say with certainty that the above statement is the primary reason I considered Obama a better candidate. Call me a tree hugger or whatever else you call democrats on this board (i'm a middle aged, gun toting, white male, lsu grad who was born in Louisiana though), but the Republican Party has been, and continues to be, a party that denies the relevance of protecting ecosystems and therefore the wildlife that goes with it. From (a) denying global climate change to (b) cutting funds for “big” government organizations that work towards conservation to (c) to reducing oversight and accountability on industry, I just don’t get how most of you guys come to terms with it or ignore it. (a) it’s gonna suck when geese won’t leave Canada, (b) anyone with a DU decal on their car might be surprised to know how that organization relies on cooperation with government programs like Fish & Wildlife services, the USDA wetlands reserve program etc. (c) your parties mantra of “drill baby drill” has played a huge role in destroying coastal fisheries habitat. I will get accused of coming on here to lecture, but I just wanted to offer up something else for the majority of posters on here to think about other than healthcare, taxes and minorities. I’m curious to know what y’all think. p.s – I don’t think he is going to take away my xtrema2 either..

Seems like a cut and paste or an alter. Either way, I'll offer you this. From an economic standpoint, and assuming for your purposes climate change is real and man-made, carbon emissions in Baton Rouge have the same affect on individuals in China. Thus, carbon emissions are a global problem that can't be fixed unilaterally. However, you and other people buy into this notion that unilateral action on curbing GHG's will change the atmosphere and the universe. We're a beacon for the global economy and others will follow? Right? Well, no. Instead, you raise prices by placing supply constraints on carbon markets without any change in demand in the short-term. And if you did have a change in demand downward, it would just make the supply glut great for carbon resources, demand would rise exponentially in developing countries, and you would possibly see an increase in carbon emissions globally. In short, cap and trade is bad policy. Yet, liberals support it. It's dumb.

Ahh...the old single issue voter. I understand the thought behind it, and I am a "tree hugger" as well, but have a different approach to conservation (as do a lot of people) than government intervention. Outdoorsmen are the greatest stewards of the wilderness.

The problem with the EPA under the Obama administration is that their regulations aren't designed to protect the environment. In fact, most of them won't save a single tree or animal. Most of their regs are designed to punish businesses, reward cronies, punish political enemies, and expand the power of the agency.

Many are. I think the "republicans will destroy the earth" is about as stupid as "Democrats will take your guns."
